: Three things I hate about Nissan!
metro_se-r 08-02-2002, 03:13 AM 1. No "T" at the end of my "SR20DE"!
2. No "V" in my "SR20DE" instead of the "D"!
3. No way of having a "GT" instead of the "SE" in my "SE-R"!
**** this sh!t, when will Nissan bring the good stuff to the US??? Why are we stuck with QR25DEs in Spec Vs that produce 175hp while Honda feeds the RSX with a 200hp Vtec and Subaru juices up their boxer with a Turbo? Even Mitsu is bringing the EVO next year!!! What kind of morons are running (ruining) this company?!? If the US car market had access to the Skyline GT-R there would be a lot less Vettes on the road...
llaprad1 08-02-2002, 05:52 AM I would bet money that the SR20DET and the SR20VE wont pass gov't mandated emissions standards for manufacturers (which is probably more stringent than your every year emission "testing").
Hell, even the 1997 SE-R couldn't be sold in CA for that reason.

Uhh...
RSX-S: $24k
WRX: $23.5k
Mitsu EVO: ~$27k
Spec V: $17k
Any questions? You want a Nissan that'll kick the crap out of all of those above for close to the same price?
BUY A Z.
I would say Nissan's smarter now than they have been in 10 years.

Not likely. Those who want a four-seat AWD sedan with lots of power don't typically cross-shop V8 RWD two-seaters. Plus, the M3 is here in all its glory and they still sell every Vette they make.
It's all a matter of perspective. Maybe you should look into getting some. :p
Toolapcfan 08-02-2002, 11:33 AM I never looked at it that way, but I'm inclined to agree. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the new Z. I've admired the WRX for many years now, but if I could afford to buy one I wouldn't, I'd buy a Z.
97SERLuvin 08-02-2002, 12:33 PM From what I've been told and read about the det version isn't because of emissions (I'm sure they could make it street legal everywhere but Cali at least but maybe at a slight power reduction but it's STILL turbo, heh) but because the light weight of the sentra with that motor vs the 300zx would put them on a very similar plane in the US and they didn't want a car that costs nearly half the price that performed almost as good as the higher level car to compete against each other, especially with the 300zx already losing sales fairly quickly at the time. There was also mention that the reliability of turbos varies heavily on climate and the two target market areas for the se-r was California and Florida both of which are (obviously) very hot in the summer. As for which of those is really the reason I don't know, maybe both had a play in it.

wErD! That gray-haired old man who bought that auto-tranny Corvette so he could clog up the left lane doing the speed limit did so because it's a CORVETTE. :D
Buckwilly 08-02-2002, 01:03 PM I'd have to agree about the fact that nissan is obviously trying to build more reliable cars that can still perform. I wonder how many WRXs there will be on the road in 10 years that were made today?
RSX? Come on...no thanks. A VE would be nice to see but I doubt nissan will ever bring another turbo here. I also think they should R&D that emission issue with the VE, from what I felt riding in Shoes59's ride...I think it would be great in a B15.
You also neglect to notice that there is a very very good chance that the new Skyline GT-R will be coming to the states. Nissan has allready made a statement that they would like to bring it overseas. Not to mention that the new GT-R R35 Concept happends to be a left side driver :). Anways im glad nissan doesn't bring over the SR20DET because that allows us true Nissan fans to have something to build that isn't allready all over the streats and riced out by the 'in croud'. As is the import community(ie the ricers, not the real fans) have some respect for the SR20XXX, if they were able to buy one at their local nissan dealer for half the price of their Civic then every one and thier mother would have one.
As a side note i have mixed feelings about the R35 comming to the states. This has long been a dream car for me, and when it comes to the states it will still be an awesome car, but it will have been american'ized, every one who has some money has a Vett, so everyone who has some money will have a R35. Anyone else feel my pain?
Da91NX 08-02-2002, 01:06 PM If they could get a WRX to pass the emissions, why cant tey get a bluebird or even any of the gti-r's. At least we can import the left hand drive gti-r's. Too bad we couldnt have gotten them new with a warrentee.

ARE YOU SERIOUS. WE CAN GET THE LHD PULSAR GTi-R IN THE STATES????( as in import them?)

As quoted from Andreas Miko:
"These GTIRs that I am talking about are in the Bahamas. There are some street legal GTIRs here in Miami, I have seen 2 whites 1 black and 1 grey. If you want to get a left hand drive GTIR you can find them in Spain like that. Getting these cars legalized is no problem I have the conections."
Toolapcfan 08-02-2002, 02:35 PM I feel your pain Synx. There is something to be desired in being low key, or being underappreciated, undiscovered. I'd hate for any Nissan to be the next civic or pt cruiser. Fads make me want to puke. (blue hairs driving vettes also make me want to puke) The R35 coming to the states might tarnish it, peoples dirty hands on it. The impression I get of Skylines is that they are a car that people who know what they're getting into, own. You bring it here and fat walleted fags will snatch 'em up because they "heard" that they're the shit. That's the last thing I want, even if I'll never own one. Our capitalist society has a way of ruining nice things. I'd say the WRX has already gone that route, and when they bring the STI version around it'll happen again. I don't even want one anymore. All that outstands is the 22B and that'll never make it over here. I'm glad that people don't understand why I'd drive for 6 hours to get a classic SE-R, because if they did they'd be smudging it up with their thick greasy fingers. It'll be nice to be one of less than a handfull of classic owners in the area, because unlike the PT cruiser, the market will never be flooded with classic SE-R's. Something that a lot of people don't seem to understand, is that there are some things that more money can't buy you, and that's a sense of self. I can decide for me that X car, which can be modded to be badass, is the shit and nobody else has to know or recognize it as such, because it's performance will speak for itself and they'll still be left in the dark and several car lengths back. :)

Ever since I bought my first Nissan (in 1995), I have been hearing "The Skyline is coming!" That's 7+ years, and it's not here yet. I'll bet anyone that it will NEVER make it here (at least not sold at a Nissan/Infiniti dealer ;)).
IF the Skyline ever does make it to the U.S. (that's a big "if" ;)), it will be so watered down that real car enthusiasts won't even bother with it.
JimmyNX2000 08-02-2002, 03:15 PM HA! what you people have failed to realize, is that the Skyline is here!! think infiniti G35;) . it is the new skyline. only, we dont have the high performance version. but. we are going to be seeing a 2 door coupe with a 6 speed..... who knows what will come after that.:)
Toolapcfan 08-02-2002, 03:24 PM If I'm not mistaken, the G35 is the 350Z. Somehow I'm reluctant to see any Skyline influence in the new Z.

OK ... but see my "so watered down that real car enthusiasts won't even bother with it" comment. :D This (http://www.edmunds.com/new/2003/infiniti/g35/luxury4drsedan35l6cyl5a/specs.html?id=lin0018) is a poor excuse for a Skyline, IMO.

Well IF something comes after that (that's a big "if" ;)), it won't be a twin-turbo, AWD beast.
JimmyNX2000 08-02-2002, 07:01 PM True. and the sad thing is. i highly doubt we will see any brand new production twin turbo AWD from nissan. the RB26DETT is out of production. the R34 is out of production. the last ones were called the NUR-Spec. same goes with the Silvia, the Supra, and the RX-7. isnt Emmisions laws wonderful?
Yes, its Sad. These cars are THE Japanese Supercars FROM THE 90's. its a new decade now. and, you will see new cars. this is what nissan is doing i think. its. its going NA in just about all applications of US cars. and there isnt much we can do about it, we arent Nissan CEO's and all. all we are is consumers. but, hopefully nissan will be nice enough to listen to us :)

Alas, they only listen when they make a *huge* mistake, let it sit fir a while, and it affects sales.
(E.g. 350Z, B15 SE-R)
As long as they make a car adequate enough for reasonable sales, they dont change nuttn, save for cosmetics.
(E.g. 200SX SE-Rs, 240SXs, G20, old Alty)
The only exception of a car that got progressively better over time is the Maxima. Somebody high up must really like the Max.

RSX may have 200hp, but it has less torque than a spec v, no HLSD, and a higher price tag.............and the spec V has been known to take an RSX-S on an uphill race thanks to torque and LSD...............Subaru has AWD.......so it really needs that turbo to get going..........I admit.........we don't get any good cars here.......but that goes for a lot of different makers.............porsches, etc.
