: Turbine?
Moshkenstein 08-02-2002, 09:38 AM I was speaking with a friend of my brother's (a mechanic that gets his stock 89 sentra to do 150 mph) about my G20 and he said that I could get a turbine for my car that acts as a small turbo. This is the first time I heard of the turbine attachment so I did some research and haven't found anything about a turbine attachment on a car... does anyone know what he was talking about or was he just B.S.-ing me?
Big John 08-02-2002, 09:35 PM Anyone who says their stock B12 Sentra can do 150 mph without falling off a cliff, is full of BS. Those electric turbines are snakeoil. Don't waste your money.

B12 Sentra w/ JDM SR20 and real turbo boost, among many other things.

Moshkenstein 08-03-2002, 09:54 PM Depends on the driver I guess...and he has been driving since he was 8-years-old (and not an automatic).
Insane PSI 08-03-2002, 10:11 PM Driver doesn't matter in a B12. There could be Webster or Dale Jarret, neither one will get it to go to 150, stockly speaking of course. ;)
Mndgy 08-03-2002, 10:12 PM Hey, just like Takumi.......
Big John 08-03-2002, 10:14 PM No matter how good the driver, any stock GA16i powered B12 sentra driving on flat, level ground, regardless of sea level, weight reduction, or any other possible physical characteristic, cannot feasibly achieve 150 MPH. First point, and really the only point I need, is Gearing/Max RPM. I'm not gonna sit here and do the math, but the ole GA16i, would have to turn about 9krpm in fifth gear to sustain that kinda mph. Aside from that, now we have to beleive that a 90 bhp motor can pull a 2300 lb (rather conservative, but for the sake of discussion) car to 150 mph, with one of the least friction friendly aerodynamic body stylings in Nissan history. Aside from aerodynamic friction, we also have to take into account friction from the tires to the pavement. This leads me to another thought, the stock 155 80R 13 tires would probably fly apart at the ply at those kinda speeds. If he has aftermarket wheels and tires, then that just adds to rotational weight and friction of the contact patch, which would just bring the top speed of the car down. Also, the factory speedo stops @ 105 MPH, how does he know he did 150. I have a 91 SE-R speedo in mine which goes to 150, but has never seen more than 130. There was plenty of RPM and power left, but the car was not very stable, 150 no thanks. Not trying to insult you or your friend, but your friend seems to stretch the realm of feasibilty.

smoat 08-03-2002, 10:38 PM Yeah that is pretty much the most bold statment I have heard in a while. I'm sorry but to take car with that little potential and claim that it will do 150 mph is dumb. The kind of power you would need in a car like that is crazy I am going to guess here probably around 385 hp with a gutted interior some Z rated tires and some useful exterior mods. Not to mention the chassis and suspension mods one would have to do. Oh yeah this is a stock sentra. I wish people would put facts before making claims as this but maybe you know something we don't.
Moshkenstein 08-04-2002, 01:55 PM OOuuuchh... Ok this is the LAST time I try to be sarcastic in ANY forum... I knew that there really wasn't a turbine modification worth putting on any car or there would be at least one case of which somewhere. I just wanted to see if anyone knew what he was talking about, and as far as his comment of getting his stock Sentra to do 150 mph... HELLO, MY NAME IS SARCASM, I DON'T BELIEVE WE HAVE MET....
I don't know why you people took someone with the name "Moshkenstein" so seriously, you seem like such intelligent people, and that is not sarcasm. I mean, come on! Its not like it has a WING or TYPE R badges... cause then its faster then the Skyline.....
art_from_ct 08-04-2002, 04:36 PM Can I request a lock on this post ?
TurboMiata 08-04-2002, 07:32 PM b12's cant be fast at all. They dont float well either.
Big John 08-04-2002, 10:16 PM yeah yeah. To all of those who don't know the fastest FWD B12 in the world (mine) got caught in a flash flood, my JWT ECU took some water and started randomly pulsing the injecors, my open down pipe must have sucked up water and deposited it in the oil pan via the turbo oil return line, about 4 quarts worth. It's all good now though, as for being slow..ehemm..It doesn't run 11's, but at least the head gasket is intact :D

doesnt depend on the driver, a car can only go so fast, thats just stupid, Dale Earnherdt Jr. cant drive a honda accord around turns and have it handle them going to 160 some things are just not possible atleast I got a good laugh out of all of this.

sleeping 91ser 08-04-2002, 10:29 PM no mr sarcasm I don't believe we have met atleast not in this post. You where serious, or if you werent you didnt do a good job of presenting it. My car is the fastest car in the world....:p now thats sarcasm.

Moshkenstein 08-05-2002, 07:49 AM Look, Im sure you people are real cool and neato people... but I guess I failed at showing how one person insulted me by thinking I, or anyone else would believe that they could get their B12 can do 150 mph... Oh wait... let me rephraze the "joke"
A guy walks into a bar and says "Hey, my Civic Hatchback does 150 mph stock".... Get it? Cause I did... I figure if I replace the Nissan with a Honda, you wouldnt be so offended, so I appologize for my blasphomy... but did I really have to draw it out for you? Or do I have to change my screen name so you don't assume that I am as absent-minded as my screen name suggest (Moshkenstein being the name of a friend's band, not a discription of my own personality)
Do you think anyone on this forum would believe that a B12 would go 150 mph? Well, maybe if they own a Neon or a Civic hatchback (you know, the ones that swear those cars are really fast stock....soucd familiar?).

Now youre getting the hang of it... a little eyerolling or a lol at the end would suggest sarcasm.
Not a phrase like: Sometimes I eat my dogs treats.
Seriously there are people out there who do it, just like there are people who are gullible to believe a stock 89 Sentra can do 150mph and there have been people to ask if that piece of crap actually works.
smoat 08-05-2002, 10:14 PM I will be a man and say I'm sorry for insulting you. It is just that there really are people who think this way. I think there was something like 3 post in 2 days about those turbine things. I know it is hard to assume (sp) that every one will see things the way you do. Like the person in the cavalier who thinks that dual exhaust makes sense on a four cylinder or that the gigantic wing on their accord is also functional. There is just no getting through. Any way again I am sorry.
