well we just got the ve in last night and it started on the first crank. however, when its cold, it idles at just under 3000 rpm. when it warms up, it fine. and when you give it some gas, it jumps around rpm up to about 3500 rpm... up and down. but if you hit the gas a little harder it revs steady and acts normal. please let me know what to check and what could be causing this. thanks

Sam....

I have a good feeling this will be cleared up after a little elbow grease in it and maybe a few tips from the VVL crowd :)

If you can today see if you can (in this order).
1) Pick up that hose for the valve cover to the intake.
2) Check your TPS voltage this afternoon if you can.
3) Set the idle speed in timing mode using naji's/kojima's procedure
4) Check the timing. I know its the DE ecu, but at least verify its at 17 or higher for now - not sure what you VE guys run stock.

Hopefully that above stuff will clear some things up... I think this might be the first VE in Cincy if not one of the hand counted put together in Ohio. Good work this week even though we had limited time.

If you need help with any of that and everything is good you can bring the car by this week and well trouble shoot. I think we should be able to fix this w/ a little help from the VE crowd, so anyone that can read this w/ VE experience please chip in!

Couple random notes from yesterday:
A) As far as wiring went... I think things went smoothly. VVL solenoids aren't wired up yet as it wasn't important. For the AAC, I wired the purple connector from the VE harness as it was different (ve came automatic; 3 bolt iacv)... For this I wired the yellow wire from the DE harness, to the yellow wire on the VE connector. I wired the Black Wire from the DE harness to the blue wire on the VE connector. Please let me know if this was correct.

B) I wired up a new knock sensor as the old one has torn off. Didn't pop any CEL's (yet).

C) There were a couple of connectors that went to the EGR that weren't hooked up. We just left them dangling. Shouldn't add to any issues.

D) Used DE Throttle Body & TPS w/ the VE Pulley and found a way to use the Lowport DE Throttle Bracket.

E) We Looped TB Coolant hoses w/ 1/2" Adaptor, Used adaptors to hook up heater hoses.

thanks ameen... checked timing and idle before i got the hose, i'm going to get it right now. timing was at like 25 plus, i put it down to around 19-20 for now. idle is adjusted all the way down, just over 1000rpm now. also, if i pull the brown plug off of the aac, it doesnt pulsate when you give it gas anymore.

the revs also jump up to 3000 rom when you move the shifter into any gear, as soon as you take it out and put it in the nuetral position, it drops back to idle... not sure what sensor it would be, but i can't see it being anything besides some sensor. let me know if anyone can help out... thanks

it also just threw a couple codes... 3-4... Detonation (Knock) sensor and 3-5... Exhaust gas temperature sensor (California models). the car was never from california and never even went into the state of california... some weird stuff... lol... let me know if anyone knows why it might have thrown either of these codes. thanks

My VE idled really high when I installed it. Try resetting the ecu. If you keep effing with the idle/timing/tps the ecu can get confused.

Also try grounding the MAF at the spot on the intake manifold.

i forgot to mention that this is on a jwt ecu... i think i'm going to wait to try to fix all the problems until i get the calum ve ecu. i dont want to set it up to idle decent with the de ecu and have to readjust ecerything fot the correct ecu. but the more advice the better... so keep it coming!! thanks

 ber? Resetting the ecu is easier that any of the other stuff you are doing. You can't reset JWT's ECUs?
