Hi all, I just installed a used starter in my '91 today, since I thought that was the culprit behind my starting problems, but it hasn't helped. The car will not turn over, not even a hint. I jumped it with a friend's car, and it only clicked, and only for a few seconds. After that it would not even click. I have checked all fuses and fusible links, and everything is fine. The car runs fine when I pop-start it, but that's the only way I can start it. I am positive the starter is not dead. Any suggestions?

Get a new battery. When you are jumping it, make sure you are using nice thick jumper cables and also "grit" the clamps around the battery posts/grounds on each car to make sure you are getting a nice clean contact.
If you are getting clicking, then that just means not quite enough power is going thru to the starter.

Brand new battery, so that's not the problem. I think I may have found the culprit though. There are remnants of an old security system floating around the wiring, and that may include an ignition kill or something. There are non-factory wires running around the dash, my plan is to follow them around until I find the problem.

Is the starter you put in there brand new? Because if it clicks, then stops making any kind of noise, thats the starter going out.
I had some issues with my starter, I must have went through about 3 of them. Turned out to be a drop in voltage somewhere, and this place ran a relay from the starter straight to the battery, I havent had a problem since.

No, it wasn't a new starter, it was a used one from JGY. I had my old starter tested though, and it was fine. The car had exhibited the same problems with the old starter. So it's gotta be in the wiring somewhere. No more time to work on it today, though, back to it tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for the help everyone, turned out it was a bad battery ground - the ring where the negative battery cable bolts to the thermostat housing was completely rotted off, the battery cable was just hanging there. Don't know how I missed this one.
