It's Saturday, my car doesn't do anything but sit on a trailer, so I thought I'd check the compression. Plus, I'm trying to figure out why the car seems slow (haven't dynoed it, just going by the butt dynometer).
Cylinders 1-2-3-4
185-190-181-200
My car should have compression ratio of 10:1 (legally by SCCA Improved Touring rules :p), so would that account for the #s being higher than spec? But I would think the compression #s should be more even considering the engine was rebuilt over the winter. However, I discovered a spark plug problem last month (http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21189), which has me concerned.
FWIW, I followed the procedure exactly as outlined in the FSM. Checked 'em twice and didn't see much difference (+/- 1-2).

# 3 seems a bit low. Is this freshly rebuilt, how many miles since rebuild? Any overheating recently?

My motor with new 10:1 pistons reads 180psi all across. This was with 0 miles, just idling in the garage. On another note, Pat we need to talk about the gorilla tht tightened up bolts on your '93.

Eh. The same people who put the Quaife in "my" '93 are the same people who built the engine in my '91. :p

It probably has almost 2,000 miles. Haven't had any overheating problems. The last time I ran it, it was 90-95 degrees outside, and water temps didn't get over 210 degrees in multiple 20-minute sessions on track.

That might explain alot then. The sway bar endlink was on so tight, I broke it while trying to remove it, and had to use a breaker bar to loosen it. The part of the axle that goes into the tranny was all screwed up to. it took my over an hour of using a pry bar, and a screwdriver and hammer to remove it from the tranny. the spines were all torn up. Oh well.
Have you dynoed your '91 yet?

Not yet. I was going to get it dynoed after it got back from the body shop ... but considering it was never really dropped off at the body shop ... Whenever I get around to fixing the mangled sheet metal, I'll get it dynoed.

Did you perform a leakdown on #3? Maybe drop the oil pans and peek at the cylinder walls with a dentist mirror, look for scarring, gouges, etc. If you really wanted to, drain the oil and have it analyzed. Certain amounts of gasoline, aluminum, etc. should be present under normal conditions.
