: Exhaust resonator question

I know that a lot of you guys are running a Thrush/Dynomax glasspack resonator - part #24201, 24 inches long. I love my new 3A Racing muffler, but between 3k and 4k rpms, it's deafening. The Pacesetter midpipe does have a resonator, but it's only about a foot long.

The question is this: since I need a bigger resonator, should I just go with the 24201, or would the 27-inch 24203 fit? I really want my ears to stop bleeding and my wife to be willing to get in the car again...

Any help gratefully received.

I can tell you this---I have 2.25 piping from the flex pipe back to a DYNOMAX cat and then back to the Thrush glass pack and then finally back to a crappy Ractive Muffler. That damn thing is downright loud. Before I put the increased piping on it was loud, now its near levels I can't take.

I am currently looking for a good replacement for that muffler as it's the problem, I think:)

I've got a 28" thrush and a ractive muffler too. but I dont have a cat anymore so its loud but it wasnt to terrible before with the cat. I want to put it on but its got a hack sawed pipe and rusted rounded off bolts. are you two going to the auto-x tomorrow at Grand Victoria. be there around 9:30 or 10:00 if you want to come.

Can anybody answer the question I asked?

Yea---the answer is---it isn't going to matter, they are both loud as hell. I have the 24203 and I assume you read my post where I said it was too loud. So buying the smaller one would only be worse. Now keep in mind that I think most of my noise is coming from that crappy muffler.

I would have to agree with you 100%. I had te replace my 14" Borla SS Turbo (4"x9") with a 18" Magnaflow SS (5"x8") because it was too damn loud. I ended up getting a longer and larger diameter muffler and it worked great! Even though I loved the sound the Borla made. I too have the Dynomax - Thrush glasspack as a resonator.

Just something I am gonna quote from Kojima

Originally stated by Mike KojimaA disadvantage to the straight through muffler is that it is louder than a reverse flow type of muffler. Usually a straight though muffler needs a small sub muffler or a resonator to keep the exhaust quiet. A resonator is usually a small, perforated core glass pack placed somewhere in-between the catalytic converter and the main muffler. Like the main muffler, the longer the resonator, the better a sub muffler will be for noise reduction. A Walker Magnum Glass-Pack is a good muffler to use as a resonator. Almost all of the pre-made performance exhausts feature resonators. A resonator will get rid of the tinny Honda Civic riceboy noise. It will leave a deeper more powerful sound from your exhaust.

Dude, I'd love a turbo or VE, but this is my daily driver and I can't afford either the cost of the conversion or the downtime involved for the install  :(

The 24" is the one to get.

Random Tech. cat., Thrush/Dynomax glasspack, Dynomax Ultra Flow or any Mangnaflow muffler. You will be happy, and will still have money in your pocket.
