I have a vvl in my Sentra....everything works fine except for the vvl activation... I tried putting the cams to pin #30 the MSD to #85 the 12v constant to #87 and switched power ( cigarette lighter) to # 86 and nothing is working I've read all the threads and there isn't any real answer to this question that I could find...I twisted the two different colored wires on the solenoid together and ran them to the relay and grounded out the same colored wires on the engine...It seems that I should have everything hooked up right but nothing is happening...And also isn't the relay supposed to be grounded? Thanks for any info...

The cam switches return to earth. Try hooking the two wires from the switch to pin 30 and hook an earth return to pin 87...

So i put the different colored wires on the Solenoids to a constant 12v and the same to Pin 30 and ground 87 instead of a switched 12v? Thanks for the quick reply too...

The two black wires from the solenoids go to an ignition on 12V feed.
The two coloured wires go to pin 30 on the relay
A constant earth wire goes to pin 87 on the relay.
In theory the on the MSD side. You run a ingintion on 12V feed to pin 85 on the relay, and connent pin 86 to the MSD unit. However, as I don't have a MSD on my car and nor have I seen a wiring diagram for it, I'm not 100% sure.

Sounds like you've different wires to mine. I've two black wires which are the 12V feed, then an orange on one solenoid and green on the other which are the earth returns through the ecu.
Basically for each solenoid you have a feed and a return. It dosn't matter which way round they go as long as one end goes to 12V supply, and the other to your MSD (or other switching devise)...

I also put a 12V LED inline between the solenoids and the MSD unit. I fed 12V to the LED and let the MSD ground it so I can see when it kicks in. I had doubts about it kicking in regularly but the LED showed it was working correctly.

Thanks for all the help on this...I think I've found out that my MSD box (8950) is shot for some reason...It was brand new but nothing is happening...Oh well that is how it goes sometimes...
