: My fiancee's dad bought an SE-R!

I noticed that there was a red 93-94 SE-R for sale right down the street from where my fiancee's parents live. I jokingly said that she should get it so we could have matching cars. Then I found out her DAD was interested in buying it. He knows how much I've done to my car and figured he could buy it for Lynn's younger brother who's in high school (lucky bastard). I find out a week later that he did in fact buy it and apparently he has been tinkering with it ever since. Now every time I go to her parent's house he's outside working on the car and asking me all kinds of questions about it. He's been fixing all the little problems on it and now wants to get an intake for it and a new exhaust.

It's wierd having the same hobby and same car as your woman's dad, but it's cool in that we now have some more in common. It's always good to be in with the parental units.

BTW it's a '93 with the highport enigne and 109,000 miles. Everything original. I drove it and it runs strong. The only problem is it was owned by a teenage girl so there are fun girly stickers all over it.:p

Too funny.
I'd driven past that car several times on the way home from werk (the days i avoid the tollway). If it hadn't been for the 'pull me over' red paint i may have beaten him to it. Yup, those girly stickers were a bit offputting, more for the fact that it MAY have not seen enough cobweb clearing redline runs to keep it healthy (bad assumption bout gurl drivers i know). Acording to the insurance comps young females are getting just as risky as males. Hopefully the car can make the next meet. Also interesting is just further east down Oakton is a Marathon(?) station w/ a busy mechanic shop. One of the older monkeys owns a highport NX2000 which he loves. If i had ever ended up in over my head w/ Teddy i was going to give him a call. His name is Mike and he also wrenches and tows on the side.

Hell, I wish I had my g/f's dad's hobby. I would be driving a S430 and a '03 Navigator!!!:(

Thanks for the advice on the mechanic, Paul. I'll tell him about that place.

As for the red car thing, I haven't been pulled over YET having driven a red SE-R for several years now, and mind you I'm not a slow driver by any means:D

Yeah he knows about the goo gone, but I think he's afraid it will hurt the paint, too. I think he'l looking for some special stuff that is specifically for removing bumper stickers. Dunno.

oh no! i hope this is not the same aztec classic i saw around my house. it was an 93 aztec red with some type of girl sticker on the back. i was going to buy this but then i saw that the front bumper was replaced because it has an XE style bumper instea of the se-r and the fog lights look like they are OEM but are not. after i saw this i got scared ad ran away. didnt look into it any further. oh and the one i saw also had a NON-OEM shift knob.

As far as the paint goes, I dont believe he will hurt it any. I believe it depends more on what your use to peel it off. We used that on my friend's Suzuki Katana 750 to peel off some decals we didnt like and I didn't notice any difference. If he is real worried about the paint, I believe Shell is the man to talk to. He helped me with some paint issues I've have. man knows his stuff.

Robert,
That sounds about right. The non-oem knob rings a bell. Didn't notice the missing 93-94 airdam, good eye.
I just poked around, looked underneath, wrote down the VIN and figured i'd pass on the info to the community. Not a fan of the Aztec (or white for that matter). Next thing i know Ryan or someone else mentioned it so i figured everyone knew.
It may have been bonked at one time. It looked pretty clean for a 93 chi-town car ***. If it drives straight, Lynn's brother has got himself some way nice family sponsored wheels. Who knows maybe dad will realize it's too much fun to pass down. =P

Bummer bout Mike's NX. Hope he was OK. I might haveta stop on my next northern passage home.

BTW, was *** you w/ yer Ruby Classic at the meet before last (Skokie?). Damn. My 2nd favorite color and i didn't even get to say hi.

Yep that's the car alright. Non-OEM plastic knob and you're right, the fog lights aren't stock. I did think it was strange that it didn't have the deeper chin spoiler air-dam since it's a '93. I drove it a little to see how it drove and it felt good. The clutch pedal is (was?) super hard but I believe he fixed it. The engine was very dirty when i saw it so I don't think the girl who owned it had EVER voluntarily opened up the hood. It also has a few other MINOR problems, i.e. missing trunk liner and carpet and the driver's side door handle panel was coming loose. He talked her down from $2,500 to only $1,500 for it, though. Not a bad deal even for a not-so-perfect car.

damn for that price almost nothing should matter, i thought the price paid was close to the $3900 the owner was originally asking.
