Just swapped out my month old plugs that were gapped at .026
After a crazy 16psi boost spike ( Manual Boost controller ) my 1rst cylinder plugs porecelin ( is that how you spell it? ) section seperated into two pieces. Lucky for me it didn't blow off and fall into the cylinder. Oh by the way gapped the plugs to right about .020 to .022 and the car idles much better. ( Used to bounce around from 800 to 1000. ) We'll see if it helps with driveability and power tomorrow.

Oh yeah...1 more thing..doesn't a lot of brown on the porcelin part of the plug mean detonation?

Why the hell are ur plugs gapped so small? What boost are you running? What plugs are you running? What MBC are you running? The MBC shouldn't spike if it's a good one unless you dind't tighten the nut down. Even then, the boost should go lower, not spike. Makes me think your vacuum line wasn't put on well and it popped off.

A bit of brownish or grayish is normal.
I had detonation on one of my cars and the plug was chipped and cracked around the insulator.

I did a search on SE-R.net ( mailing list archives ) and it seemed like the most common gap. ( Those could be really old email/post though ) * I also posted a question on another post trying to get some ideas of other plug gaps. Now that I see what everyone else is doing I'll widen the gap and see what happens *
The manual boost controller is some cheap home depot style. ( Not ball and spring ) I know the vacum line is on just fine...I check it after every run. Its wierd if I punch it from a roll on..the controller will hold boost fairly well ( I tried to set it at about 9/10psi...but if I rev match before a down shift..or even if I just down shift and punch it..it'll spike to 15-16psi. Im just gonna take the MBC off and order a electronic. The MBC is just way to sensitive and its too hard to tune...its pretty much on or off. Its either stock boost or 1 to 3 extra PSI with the chance of spiking to 15-16. Im tired of swapping plugs.

Well, there's your problem. Why'd you spend so much money on turboing your car and you go and go cheap on a MBC? Hallman's and Joe P's cost $50.

BTW - I got the MBC in the car now for free..buddy let me try it out.
Thanks for the reply Terrin. Are all your post so friendly?;...lol

Well because he is Irwin. hahahaa j/k . Yah dude get the Joe P MBC like i said. The controller will hold boost steady it just take ALOT of trial and error. Its suppose to be a pretty good MBC but is mainly used on DSM's since its from RRE.
