I just bought my '93 SE-R on saturday and the thing smells like an ashtray. I've got some smoke and odor eliminator that I'm going to use, but though I'd see if anyone knew any tricks to getting the stank out! TIA :)

Spread some baking soda (not baking powder) over all fabric in the car. Let it sit for a while, then vacuum it up with the most powerful vacuum that you can lay your paws on.

well..you can do a total interior tear down, and clean everything...steam clean all the carpet and interior cloth pcs..or..you could do that to a certain degree and use Febreeze..it works pretty well.....

I bought this odor atomizer thing. I bought it from a store in my local mall, brookstone. it plugs into your cigarette lighter. I smoke in my se-r and this combined with fabreeze KILLS the smell.

I've used some Lysol fabric refreshener (aerosol) on my clothes after a night of smokey bar-hopping. That has also worked well.

Alright you want to know how to get it out. I used to work for FORD yes i know Found on Road Dead. But anyways when we had to get smoke out the best way to do it is bypass all those chemicals get a steam cleaner or get a Carpet cleaner and shampoo the carpets. I suggest the Steam Cleaner because you can also clean your vent system with this that way you never have the smell again once its off the upholstery. If you can't get a hold of a Steam Cleaner. Shampoo your carpets you don't have to have everthing like the detailers do. All you need is some shampoo, water, something that can spread the shampoo and get it into the carpets and seat really well. Then you need a dry/wet vac, whatever you do if you don't have a dry wet vac do not get the interior wet. Also after you get done shampooing the carpets make sure to leave your doors and windows open for about 12 hours otherwise you will be replacing the headliner in your car when it gets hot and humid outside. Good luck if you have anyquestions just pm me.

Yeah, my brother in law worked in a detail shop for a few years and I used to help him out so he could get off work early. They used to run the car with the heater on full blast with the windows cracked, even if it was hot outside. Just let the car run like that until the interior dried out. Works on humid days as well. I sprayed the shit out of the interior last night three times with this Spartan Airlift Smoke and Odor Eliminator that I got from work and I can't smell the smoke anymore. Once the headliner is cleaned or replaced, probably the latter, and I shampoo the carpet and upholstery with a shampoo machine using clean hot water, maybe with baking soda in it, it should be good as new. (The problem with soaps and shampoos is that they leave a residue in the carpet/upholstery which contributes to resoiling, clean hot water is the best thing, no chemicals at all) Maybe respray it all again with the Airlift once it's dry. Thanks for the tips everyone. I've got a good feeling this is going to work out and I won't have to feel like I got a bad car because it smells like ash. (pun intended) :)
