I have been looking into SR20 swap for my 96 SE and I was searching for a used engine. Just recently, I found a engine off from 97 SE-R and it has 84K on it. It comes with ECU and harnesses, plus pretty much everything (Flywheel, exhaust manifold, water pump, power steering pump, AC compressor, alternater, and MAF). Seller just checked the compression for me and the result was 168,168,168,170. Only thing wrong with this engine is a O2 sensor is giving Check Engine light. The price he is asking is $600+s/h. Do you think this is a good deal? and shuld I go for it??
84K is a little more than I want, and compression looks just a tiny bit lower (even though still fine). I see some used JDM motor on sale for under $500 now (maybe the engine is a lot older, but pretty sure they have less milleage). But they don't come with all the extra right? I would love to go with JDM but I didn't wanna deal with all the emission thing (my car has OBDII and we have emission test here). Any of you with experience, I would like to hear your serious opinion. Thanks!!

I say it's a good deal because it comes with the harness & Computer. You would still need a tranny & Axles & some other Misc. items.

My opinion- It's the little things that get you. An engine swap is going to be expensive no matter what. Figure out how much everything is going to cost you. Don't forget little things like a new cap, rotor, fuel filter, etc. It's a good idea to replace the water pump while the engine is out, too. Just add everything that you would need up and see what makes the most sense to you.

If I don't have to worry about emissions, I would defenitely go with JDM. I see people swapping to JDM on Classic SE-Rs, but isn't it a lot more complicated to drop a JDM on OBDII equipped B14s? I've been searching for that info, but i had no luck finding it. If someone can explain, it will be very helpful.

Yes, I still need to get a transmission and CV axles. I will be replacing most little thing such as plugs, distributer cap/rotor, fuel filter, maybe a water pump and motor mounts. This is going to be my long term project and hopefully i can swap everything by the end of this year. Since I have a few months to work on the engine before install, i might open up the whole thing and install JDM (maybe SR16) pistons too.. So I really have a lot of decision to make.

Yeah tom has had 3 engines...he blew up the original USDM sr20, so he got with andreas and put in his JDM sr20. Last week though he broke a valve so put a new JDM ported head in. Tom is cool guy his aim name is Nitrous200ser.
