: GTi-R t28 or Skyline t3 turbo?
Jedi_SR20det 05-06-2008, 04:37 AM im planning to upgrade my stock t25 turbo. i have a w10 avenir engine. im looking for more consistent power from low end to high. the t25 loses it towards high rpms. when does the t28 start spooing/boosting? also what rpm does the t3 start spooling/boosting? how much more power will i get with the t3 over the t28?
10psigti 05-06-2008, 03:25 PM i would use the gtir t28 spools about the same time as a t25 and boosts all the way to redline u will probally get more power with the t3 but depending on the trim will start to spool at about 3,5k rpm
Jedi_SR20det 05-06-2008, 05:41 PM aight let me double check what the trim is on the t3.
Yellow4g63 05-07-2008, 08:20 AM If it's a rwd R32 turbo don't even bother. The R33 RWD turbo is a little better but still sucks since you can't boost more than 14psi for long. Ceramic blades FTL.
XxToKeSxX 05-07-2008, 09:14 AM If its any of the 45vX Series turbos that nissan made (RB25, and apparently some VG30's), listen to Yellow... Chances are the turbine blades are already chipped. It's a good turbo and it spools fast, but they are no good for higher boost. Go with the T28, you can make around the same if not more peak power.
Here is some information I found on them:

Jedi_SR20det 05-08-2008, 04:17 PM i got it from a friend of mine that had it on his s13. it was like love at first sight. haha! very little shaft play. got it for 200.

i think that would be my next upgraded turbo. got it for such a good price and in a very good condition. this turbo is good enough for my goals right now.
Jedi_SR20det 05-08-2008, 04:20 PM :D :biggthump
Jedi_SR20det 05-18-2008, 08:22 AM hey guys after some more inspecting of the turbo i notice that theres shaft play. like u can press the bolt on the intake side then can push it back on the exhaust side. its about a millimeter or 2 of movement. do u think thats aright? also theres no shaft play if u move it in circular motion.
Jedi_SR20det 05-19-2008, 09:40 AM anyone? should i return it?

What ya doin man get a BORGWARNER S258 and boost away! :biggthump
bobbyisking 05-20-2008, 11:21 AM get it rebuilt, or just boost it anyways. it may still be good. you won't know until you try it.

is it easy to rebuild myself if i get the rebuild kit? if not i think i might just return it while i can. do u think with that type of shaft play is bad? when i spin it, it spins fine either side i push it to and spin it. nothing seems to hit or anything but thats just with my hand. im worried about when it starts spooling up 1000 times faster with boost.
haasyboy25 05-21-2008, 12:09 AM if there is just "in and out" movement and no "side to side" motion, it should still be fine. The GTi-R T28 is a journal bearing turbo, so its natural to move in and out a slight amount.

are u sure man? how hard is it to rebuild it myself? i think i just need to add like one or those small washers or something.
haasyboy25 05-21-2008, 07:39 PM I stick by what I said, my GTi-R T28 was the same way and threw me off at first too. Did some research, found out it is a journal bearing turbo which eased my worries and I installed it the way it came. No excess oil gets burned and I periodically check for any new shaft play, and haven't found any yet :biggthump
If you still have second thoughts and extra cash, it never hurts to have a freshly rebuild turbo obviously. But you might be disappointed once you discover the same shaft play afterwards
