$1,947 for my T28 conversion, including 3" exhaust. :D

$550 for T28 and GTi-R manifold, used
$425 for JWT ecu, used
$0 for SR20Development 2.5" downpipe (sourced from 'other' T25 setup I had purchased, but then sold with 2.25" downpipe I already had when the T28 became available.
$220 for 370cc injectors, in the rail, used.
$285 for 3" exhaust, including cat, resonator, and stainless DynoMax muffler
$110 for intercooler piping and connectors (mandrel bends from JCW)
$0 for BB intercooler, sourced from previous T25 setup that I sold without it
$100 for 'miscellaneous crap needed to do the install (gaskets, tees, etc.)
$50 for Autometer boost gauge, new
$75 for Summit racing battery relocation kit
$105 for oil and water lines, plus misc. AN and NPT fittings
$27 for SR20 copper head gasket through Summit racing
TOTAL: $1,947

That setup netted me 212whp and 203 ft-lbs torque at 9psi. Here's the dyno chart to verify that: http://www.ineednos.com/~gperry/gpdynochart.jpg
It's good for mid-13s at 100+mph all day long, too.

Later purchases include a Pulsar GTi-R intercooler for $100, Bogart wheels/MT slicks used for $500, a Techtom CMX-100N new for $140, and a ClutchNet 6-puck sprung hub clutch disk for $140. Even with all that, I'm at $2800.

Summary? You can do it. Just take your time (I spent 5 months sourcing parts here and there, as they became available) and hunt for bargains. Be prepared to jump on them when they do arise.

Good luck!

Good to see some people got boost for ~2 grand,
for me it was ~$2400. 95% my own labor (got the
parts but didn't do the welding on my downpipe)
done with reliability in mind.

This parts and source list may help you out:

This guy wanted a GHETTO turbo setup and mentioned my name, so here is the RELIABLE, but GHETTO turbo setup:

$600 - T25 turbo, J-pipe, oil and water lines, heatshields, manifold (this could very well be found for less in the For Sale forum)
$150 - 370cc injectors
$100 - BB intercooler
$75 - U-pipe and BOV from Bluebird (price may be lower)
$15 - oil and water lines ghetto hardware
$60 - IC piping from Home Depot

$1000 right there! Stock ECU does work great, just don't expect great gas mileage. No exhaust either! Open turbo elbow baby! :) This setup will get you into the 13's :D
