: Nismo LSD Owners Please
Clint 05-16-2008, 11:07 PM If anybody here has purchased the Nismo FWD LSD for either RS5F32A or RS5F32V gearbox, did your diff come with a kit that included seals & oil etc?
I know of somebody who just received one for RS5F32A and he only got the diff & instructions. I'm positive there should be more to the kit than that. Is there an option for only getting the diff without the other goodies?
Thanks.
RE-Spect 05-17-2008, 12:16 AM All i got was the diff and instructions also from Grg V
Clint 05-17-2008, 02:43 AM Do you remember what the part number was for your one? What model gearbox did it go in?
as i remember the Oil and the seal is optional
my friend himself buy at JAPAN..buy from reputable shop
only have the LSD and instruction manual only
Clint 05-17-2008, 07:59 AM OK.. A bit more research & chatting to folks & it appears that if you buy a RWD unit it comes with all of the different bits but the FWD units are a diff head & instructions so my friend got the whole package.
Another question: Does the Nismo 38420-RS365US definitely fit JDM RS5F32V gearboxes?
We can't get the Nismo VLSD diff down here any more but pay just over half the US price for the RS5F32A Nismo diff.... Pity I sold my open diff for peanuts when I got my VLSD.

You have to install that part into a VLSD box anyway. NISMO does make a unit that works with an open box, but that's a couple of hundred more so you've probably broken even.
How much do you pay for that in Aus?

Clint 05-17-2008, 11:24 AM We can't get the Nismo unit to fit VLSD here, we can only get the one to fit the open box and it's about $900 - $1,000USD (+ tax if you live in NZ). I have only seen one place in the USA selling these lately & they were asking about $1,600 USD for them.
USA do, or did have a lot of the VLSD ones but I'm not sure they will fit my JDM VLSD gearbox which has an Autech gearset that I'm not keen to give up on! I can always buy an open gearbox & axles then swap the gearset but that's a heap of work compared to simply dropping in a Mechanical designed for VLSD.
So what I'm asking is will 38420-RS365US fit a JDM VLSD gearbox such as the one that comes with the SR16VE engine?

I've HEARD that they do fit the SR16 gearbox. Can't say I've done it, but Greg says they fit.
OUCH for the $1600 for the open NISMO. I've heard more on the order of $1200 but it may be our feeble exchange rate as of now. The part number you posted came up with a $710 USD cost at one site. Not bad!!

Clint 05-17-2008, 07:36 PM Thanks folks.
winkie 05-18-2008, 09:46 AM Good to see your looking right into this Clint. As far as the oil goes the guy that rebuilt mine told me to run the redline ultra light weight oil, looks like a sickly brown.
EPSentra 06-08-2008, 02:02 PM Scott, I've recently been watching for info on which style diff is better for autocross. Do you have, or have you heard any opinions from trustworthy sources, on if to go Torsen or clutch in fwd? The bit I've seen suggests clutch style is better.

The only thing I'd be concerned about with clutch type for autocross is that they CAN have turn-in understeer, but you can probably tune that out with springs. If you have a LOT of power, it may be the best way to go, but for mild power I think the Torsen type (200 or less WHP?) probably will be smoothest.
Just IMHO though. No data to back it.
