I have a '92 NX2000 and got some tune-up parts recently. I get these items from a local auto store by my work. Upon examining the distributor cap, I noted it was different on the inside from the one I have now. The one I have now has four plastic posts with a metal bar sticking up out of each one. I guess the rotor touches each of these during operation.
The new one I got from the auto store had only two plastic posts with a metal bar sticking up out of these two plastic pieces. The two other positions had no plastic posts and the metal in these positions was flush with the side of the plastic case.
I thought this was a defective unit and sent it back. Got another one and it looked the same. The guy at the counter said that is how they are.
I thought this was crazy. What would the rotor touch in the other two positions? I just ordered a distributor cap from my local Nissan dealer and lo and behold........it looks the same as the one from the auto store. Is this some new design? Can anyone shed light on this?
