: Advance timing problem

I followed the instructions on se-r.net and reved it three times with tps sensor disconnected and the car fully warmed up. The idle just lumps around 1200rpm. I don't know why it won't drop down to 750rpm like it's supposed to. With the tps on, the idle is normal at 750rpms. I set my timing twice before and I never had this problem. Does anyone know what is going on?

You need to adjust your base idle.

Same thing happened with me two days ago. I cleaned the throttle body out and decided to check the base idle and timing.

It took me 4 trys to get the damn ECU to go into timing mode.

Also, adjusting the base idle right now will not do anything for you. You will probably end up tightening your adjustment screw all the way down to get it to idle properly in your case. That is the incorrect way to fix it.

Basically, you have not gotten the ECU to get into the timing mode even though you followed the procedures properly. Oddly enough, this happens often. Just try it again tomorrow and see if it works. Sometimes it is tricky. Don't know why, it just is.

heh, try it with s4's and no jwt ecu, right after being installed.. :D

I'd unplug the tps and it would stall

Thanks NismoPC, I just had my TB cleaned with carb cleaner a few weeks ago. I tried many times that day trying to get it to idle at 750rpm but it just rest at 1200rpm. I guess I'll have to try some other day.
