I swear I do this to myself every fawking time!!!!!!!!!!! I (try) do ***** myself instead of taking the car to a mechanic and FAWK!!!! Huge FAWKING headache!!!! Im sitting here boiling over...because I can't get my starter out because of some huge piece of ***** bracket blocking the fawking way! The bracket is beign a bitch so now I can't finish swapping out the starter till I figure out how to get that POS bracket off!!! Any of you B14 guys that have done your own starters please chime in! My fawking starter had to die the same day I got my boost controller in the mail. What luck!........I say this everytime....but fawk this...im taking ***** like this to a mechanic from now on!

that bracket is a bitch... I've always told myself that if the starter in my 200 ever goes out, a mechanic is doing the work.

carefully remove that piece of shit bracket, examine it closely and then throw it in the trash. really. Its an intake manifold bracket, and myself and a few people i know have ditched them, and nobody's intake manifold has fallen off yet.. ?

easiest way i found to do the starter was actually just go on and take out the passenger side axle, so its not in the way. then you can reach the starter with ease. also if you havent...take out your intake and everything so you can see those to bolts on top. also..to save yourself the headache get a friend to help you align it up when you put it back in ;)

I was thinking about throwing that big hunk of crap away...But with my luck...my intake manifold would fall off the moment I undo the bolts. :( But yeah if nobody has had any issues without the bracket, that MOFO is not going back on thats for sure.

There are 2 bolts on the bottom, and 2 nuts on the top. The starter solenoid wire attaches to this bracket, as do other wire harnesses. I've never had trouble with it.

YES!! You will need someone else to help line up the starter and bolts, its a two person job.

I have done all the work on my car ( rebuilt head cam swap and the like), I just didn't have the patience to do it. You are a brave man. The mechanic who did mine said that it was one of the more dificult starters to do.

I did mine by myself. I removed the nuts and bolts for the bracked just to move it slightly. Pulled the starter out, installed the newone, rebolted up the bracket, and started her up. It looks more difficult than it really is. believe me when I first crawled under there and looked at it. I almost took it to a mechanic.

I feel you man! Even though I'm always doing it, I absolutely HATE working on my car. Nothing ever goes smoothly, and when it does, it usually goes well but doesn't fix the problem

throw that FAWKING BRACKET AWAY. It is one of the first things I did on both of my SE-R's, no problems in 180,000 miles. Peace!

I am the starter replacement, OVERLORD. Don't ask me why, but I had to take my starter out for the fourth time this summer. I wrote up some instructions that are easy to follow, search the archives here, and at se-r-list.org. Try something like "Lyn Labahn Starter". The most frusturating thing for me was not getting my car high enough, so you arms aren't comfortably extended. Also, the area that you are working in is sooo small with that bracket. I have never attempted to totally remove it. I just replace it every time I get at the starter. I would hesistate to toss the fucker. By the way, make sure you disconnect your battery, and do all the connectors with the starter bolted to the car.
