Alright, I just got my jdm 10:1 engine installed, along with a jwt pp and stock clutch setup. I am trying to work the bugs out so here come the questions.

1) My car is overheating when i drive it for more than 10 or less minutes. I think i car either bubbling near the back of the block or maybe a hose is disconnected cause the system depressurize therfore lowering the boiling point. I am gonna flush and refill and check the cooling system tommorow, anything I should check out.

2) It wont really idle til the car is warmed up(it really isnt that cold in the summer in alabama). But when it does start to idle it lopes, kinda like a cam sometimes, but then it will jump from 800-2k and back down. I got rid of the egr and stuff like that on my jdm engine, btw.

3) When i have the car in a lower gear and go slow and apply very little to moderate throttle i car hear kinda like a rattling noise, i also hear it when back up a slighty steep incline.

4) I know I am gonna get flamed for this, but I gutted my cat. I have a very slight exhaust leak coming from the flexpipe cat area under my car. I tighted everything by hand as hard as I could. Do I need to break out the impact wrench and try to tighten this up or am I gonna have to shell out money for new gaskets?

Thanks for you help in advance, It is 1:30 in the morning and I just got home from the local bar, so I hope this makes sense. I am also sorry for the length. Please try to bear with a former GA16DE owner with an auto trying to move on to better and faster things.

1) Did you swap those two sensors under the intake manifold on the passenger side? One of them is a temp sensor. 10 minutes is not really long enough to overheat a car, so I'm assuming you just forgot to swap a sensor.

2) Set your base idle.

3) Possibly timing chain tensioner?

4) You are on your own here. You have to pinpoint leaks or else you'll be replacing everything by the time you find the cure :p

Good luck!

Second that. If your temp guage is erratic and jumps around, you need to swap out the US sensors for the Jpanese ones.

Also, did you change your thermostat?

Make sure the cooling system is bled correctly. I pulled a rad. hose on mine and didn't bleed it correctly, and it started to overheat rather quickly. Follow the instructions on Rick Zotz's web site. I think it is zotz.com . His instructions were more clear than the FSM.

Good luck,

Josh

my temp guage doesnt really bounce around. it takes like 3 or 4 minutes of driving it for the temp gauge to read in the middle, then it moves to hot within 30 seconds or so. where is the thermostat located on my car?

Go to the right most hose, facing the car looking at the engine bay. follow it down till it runs into the engine. 3 12mm bolts hold it on. It's also just under the distributor.

Where is the temperature sensor?

Leaning over the passenger fender looking at the oil filter, it is down and behind the oil filter.
Single spade connector.

Seems like everyone that did the jdm swap has a small problem with the cooling system.
When I had mine done, we put my usdm thermostat in (that worked fine), and it wouldnt open.
Also my stock temperature gauge always reads that I'm overheating, but the car really isnt. We made sure of this with a temp reader on various engine parts. I figure a wire must be stretched or something? any ideas
