Hey gang,

Ever since about 1.5 years ago when I blew my engine in my old SE-R and had to pay my dealership $3649.89 to replace it (and yes, i know i got b0ned!), they have always sent me coupons for nissan service every season. I got a bunch of coupons in the mail the other day, and 2 of them really interested me. One of them was "FUEL INDUCTION SERVICES" where it says they hook up the injectors to an external pump and flush out all the varnish and deposits. It interested me, so I called my nissan service guy, and he told me it would be about as effective as having them ultrasonically cleaned. I asked why and he told me they have some special solvent supplied to them from nissan that really does work. He said even though the SR20's injectors are self-cleaning, that doseent mean they don't collect varnish and other deposits. Hmm. What do you guys think about this? Sounds cheaper than having RC Engineering clean them. They want $89 for it.

Secondly, they have an "ENGINE DECARBONIZATION SERVICE" that is $99. They say it will remove nearly all of the carbon deposits on the upper part of the engine. I care deeply for my NX2000, and it's got a lot of miles[195k], so I'm wondering if any of these services would be beneficial. They say they may improve fuel
economy, too. :)

As always, any replies or insights you guys may have are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I'd safely say both services are crap and are simply a way for the $ealership to rape the unsuspecting customer. Lokk at it this way; how are you going to know the varnish is gone or carbon deposits have been eliminated? Unless your car is running *really* bad you'd never know anything was done to the car.

I received a coupon from Monroe Muffler Brake last week. For $49.95 they'll visually inspect your cap, plugs & wires and replace plugs if necessary. What amazes me is that some people will actually pay to get ripped off.

I couldn't agree with Jim more. I wouldn't pay Nissan a cent to do either one of those things.

Ahhhhh, it helps. We have had cars come in that did not run so smooth and it helped the idle. It helps clean the injectors. Nissan has tried to find something that would really work in this area for a while. Nissan has never recommended using a fuel injector cleaner on Nissans for the possibilities for problems. The chemical they have found to work and not cause harm is made by 3M. I have done it at the dealership and I have seen it work. It could actually be a cheap fix for 90 bucks. Since 1 injector will cost you more than that. When they do it they pull the fuel pump relay and run it straight on this stuff. It actually runs for a good 15+ minutes. Don't knock it til ya tried it.
