As promised, my thoughts on the robo shifter. $50 on Ebay.

Here it is broken into components. It seems to be adjustable in every conceivable way: throw, front-to-back angle, side-to-side angle, and height. Height by moving the shaft at the top (where the two silver screws are); throw by adjusting the length under the ball;

fore-aft angle by adjusting the bolt in the big slot in the piece on top, and side angle by adjusting the fit where the large bolt connects the two pieces. This connection has meshing teeth, so that it will hold better. I can only assume that this is intended for you to be able to cant the lever toward you (to the left) a little if you so desire. You can sort of see the teeth in the pics, sorry for the low res but that's all I got...

I'll let the pics do the talking from here:

As far as fit/finish, it seems to be a quality piece. It's well machined, the bottom (throw) adjustment is held by two big allen screws; the bushing for the pivot ball is included (obviously); and the bushing where it attaches to the shift linkage is metal rather than plastic like on the stock piece and the Pacesetter shifter. The large bolt in the middle and the two silver allen screws are threaded into the piece itself, rather than there being nuts, and the threads look good. The bottom half is steel, stainless I believe, and the top half is lighter so I'm assuming it's aluminum.

I know this is kind of incoherent; if you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them. I'm hoping to install it tomorrow or Sunday (using liberal amounts of loc-tite so it doesn't shake apart) and I'll post more impressions afterwards.

Does the front to rear adjustment have meshing teeth also? I woudn't want to be shifting to third, and have it loosen up. It would hurt.:)

Don't buy this part, it sucks. Basically, the problem is that even with the throw adjusted as long as it will go (i.e. the part under the ball is as short as you can make it) the rod linkage to the tranny bangs into the sway bar when you shift to fifth gear. I think that with the smaller swaybars on the GA16 cars it would work. It's too bad, it's pretty well made...

HOWEVER, I have this problem with the Pacesetter as well if I make the part under the pivot too long; I have to have about .5" of threads showing over the ball for it to be OK. Maybe my sway bar or linkage is bent?

Anyway, don't waste your money; I'm sorry I did. Stick with PS and B&M. Now I have to figure a way to get rid of this. Or use it for a club...

this may be a stupid question, but are you sure that its hitting the sway bar and not the heatshield? everyone i have heard of putting a SS in has ended up removing the heatshield entirely to keep it from hitting when you shift into 5th

I was under the car watching while my assistant... er, my wife was shifting through the pattern. Trust me, it's not the heat shield, and yes, I did have this problem with the PS as well. Maybe the shift linkage is on there upside down? I don't care, the PS is back in and working like a champ as always.

You will need to fabricate a spacer under the body of the shifter (where the spherical bearing is) to raise it up. You will then want to shorten the lever above the spherical bearing so you don't have a "truck shifter."

just installed the "robo" short shifter that i got off ebay for my 200sx se-r . it works. i did end up with a few minor problems along with it
1 the factory shift boot has a rubber bushing i guess you would call it that didn't fit properly when the height adjustment was set to a minium, like i care

2 the bolts for the front to back lean adjustment can hit the side of the center console if the left right adjustment is not set properly, so right now i have it set up so that it's a little right of center

3 as always the heat sheald, which i bent to a proper sizing, although it limited how far down the throw adjustment could go.

i'm happy with it, but i'm shure i'll be adjusting it over the next few days.
