: Sentra owners...what's your opinion on the 240sx (S14)?
GameDay 08-10-2002, 02:22 PM I've surfed the net but there's no real thriving 240sx forum that I could find, so I'll post here (in the Nissan community).
What are your guys' thoughts about buying an S14 (1995-96) and dropping an sr20DET in that.
I just like the looks, but want to get same performance classics are getting when they drop sr20det's in. I still want it to be tossable, but just a little more refined than the S13, but not too much.
Anyone have or ridden in one with a turbo, and what are your thoughts?
If I get that, then I'll also get another classic, but not sure I'd do a det in it, just jdm.
Thoughts on the s14...why doesn't it get much love? Educate me please :)
Thanks!

92_Sentra 08-10-2002, 03:02 PM I have heard that it is harder to do a SR swap on a S14. I don't know why it is but some people have told me that. The S14 is a very nice looking car. If I was going to do the swap I would get a S14 just because they look so much better.
A friend of mine just recently swapped a SR20DET into a S13. It is a stock motor with a S15 manifold instead of the s13 manifold. He is running Nitto555R's and to tell you the truth the car was kinda scary on how fast it was. For the stock motor in that car i was VERY impressed

Chek out this site!
NismoNx2000 08-10-2002, 03:55 PM In my opinion the s14 or s13,whichever you prefer are the perfect platform for an sr20det swap. The cars look good, handle great, are rwd which is not only more fun but should provide you with better launching capability. I dont know the difficulty level of the install, but i say go for it.
CAMPPAIN 08-10-2002, 04:46 PM imho a s13 is the best way to go esp if its a coupe. plus i have one so you will be just as cool as me. my buddy has a s14 and if you want refined just swap some s14 seats in there and your good to go. the s13 just feels like a more natural and just handles alot better due to lighter weight and a stiffer chassis. if you go s13 91 and up are the best for sr swaps
a sr swap in a 240 is a simple swap. you can use the sr ecu with no need to reprogram like most do with sentras (i wouldnt with a sentra either but......)
also try freshalloy.com for really great info on 240's. a word of advice though if you post something there make sure its in the right forum and that its not something that can be found by using the search.;)
Nissan240SX 08-10-2002, 04:47 PM I own an S13 doesn't have the St20DET swap, but I have also ridden in an S13 swapped and an S14 Swapped, I prefer the S13. For a couple of reasons, One the swap was easier and took the mechanic somthing like 2 weeks difference between the S13 and S14. Two the handling of the SR20DET in the S13 I felt was a lot better, more steering response and better handling all around. Which ever you choose you are in For a quick ride.
Blue93G20 08-10-2002, 05:26 PM Check out Freshalloy.com my buddy goes there and he owns 2 s13's one with a DET its a great site if you own a 240sx. My other friend has a 95 240sx with a redtop sr20det in it and a shit load of other mods, both are good platforms one is just more expensive.
GameDay 08-10-2002, 05:49 PM Wow, thanks for all the quick responses! It sound like the consensus is the B13 platform, 91 on up. But 2 questions, why not the 89-90 S13, and why does it take 2 weeks longer to drop an sr20det into the S14 platform? Don't worry, gonna check the websites that you guys mentioned, and a big thank you to everyone.
Last question, are the cars (Classics, s13, s14) just as reliable once they get a stock det swap, or are they tempermental? I want the famous japanese reliability after the swap.
Thanks!

dono200sx 08-10-2002, 06:06 PM In terms of handling the S13(91-94) is better. It is more balanced and weighs less. As regards the 89-90s, the swap is very difficult and therefore costs more. Not to mention it doesnt handle as good. It is a simple swap into the S14 IF you get an S14 SR20DET. It gets more difficult when your put motors from different generations into different cars. I.E. S13 into S14. My reccomendation is to buy an S13 and swap in an S13 SR20DET. From what I understand, the only differences between the generation of motors is the power. S13 least powerful, S14 in the middle, and S15 the most. But here is the kicker. IIRC, the only differences are fuel injectors and turbos. You also pay more for more power. Why pay more for a bigger baseline, if you are going to be upgrading that later. Of course, what is best for you depends on what you want to do with the car. Personally my plan is to swap an S13 into and S13, then when i get the money, upgrade the turbo to an T04E with an oversize FMIC. That way I'll save money versus putting the S15 motor into an S13, then upgrading that later on. Make sense?
spdracerUT 08-10-2002, 11:48 PM All I can say is that I wish I had a s13 or s14 to play around with. Great suspension setup, relatively light, and RWD the way cars were meant to be. Might just be my next car.....

WhiteSER20 08-11-2002, 01:36 AM the s13's are lighter than the s14's and ive heard less problems with the s13's but both are reliable , forget about it sr20's were talkin here how tempermental can you get ;)
SERracer01 08-11-2002, 09:35 AM Well if you guys are interested in a sr20det swap into a s14, see Jay Whitely. He's done with a s14 swap and may i say that bad boy looks so fresh and so clean. Heres the pics of the engine and stuff. I know its been posted up before, but man Jay has done a very clean swap into the s14, and my car is onits way in for my det swap :D
