Ok, I live in a small town i also want to state i do not know to much about Nissan's. Ok This guy in my town is running around with a 1997 white Nissan "Silva" he says but i think its a 240sx, he says that he had to replace the dash with a 240sx becuase it needed to have both airbags and be D.O.T certifide. Also the guy says that they had to changed the vin number because it had to say it was a 240sx not a Silva because thats basically what he turned it in to and i guess it's illegal. He also says he has a coversion kit which changes the steering wheel from right hand over to left hand side. I don't believe any of this. How can i tell if his car is a "Silva" or a "240sx" he says he has the SR20 in it i've seen the motor but really didn't look at it, i think its the KA24DE. Another thing is the bagging it has the Nissan emblem on it not the blot "s" like the on the Silva's i've seen. Also could you guys give me the specs of a 1997 240sx, 240sx SE, and a Silva's, id like to know the compression, hp, torque, ect stuff like that. Thanks a lot if anyone replies i really appericate it.

Search for pics of both the SR20 and the KA24. You should easily see the difference.

if he claims to have a sr20 in there it will be turbocharged and intercooled...look for a turbo and if he wont pop the hood, look for an intercooler behind the front bumper....if there isnt one call him a lying sack of shit and laugh as you walk away. :)

No one would go to the trouble of making a Jspec > USspec.

Tell him that the changing of a VIN is against the law. Furthermore, DOT would have never allowed that.

Additionally, ask him who did the conversion for DOT. Documentation must be provided showing it's crash-worthiness. That entails totalling 3~4 cars in crash tests.

Ask him what his customs fees were. If he imported the entire car, he would have had to pay excessive duty on it.

There is a whole other list of things, but those are just the major ones.

Thanks guys, what thourgh me off was the Silvia conversion head lights. I was with my friend in he 92 sentra SE-R with an acutal SR20 and we saw the dude with the supposed "Silvia" i told him to race my friend and guess what he says "I know what he has i'm not gonna race him." We were like ok your suppose to have the same engine we just laughed at him and left. Oh and another funny thing is he put a GTR bagging off a Skyline on there, dumbshit went to Advanced Auto parts and brought the APC GTR bagging. He is also trying to pass his 240sx in that paper "Wheels for you". But thanks again guys.

well lets clear some more things up.

1 you don't pay excessive import duties on that car you only pay 2.5% like all the others. bumper reinforcements/covers can be swapped for US spec ones, so forth and so on. Here is where its bullshit. First of all he has to go through an RI. Everyday that the car sits at dock is like 30 a month or week( I forget). The RI is going to charge you and arm and a leg since basicly you must switch all the cars componenets to meet DOT standards or must be tested(more money for independent testing company) I am talking about brake lines, tires, glass, headlights, tailights, so forth and so on. You also need the USDA's approval of cleanliness, must be have no forgien soil on it. Engine must meet EPA standards, and he is right on the air bags for that year...blah blah blah

spend 6k buy a clean S14 and spend another 3K and have a super clean sr motor with goodies.

So you can come to the conclusion that this guy is full of donkey shite, also just look at the valve cover and for the turbo the next time he says he has a badass car Silvia S14
