Does anyone know the stall on a level 10 converter? I am thinking about getting one but I'm not sure. My car is an automatic and pulled hard up top, but launched bad due to the 2k stall. I have to put another motor in now and figured it would be the best time to do the converter. Anyone?

3,200/3,300 rpm

why dont u spend the money that it would cost you for the convertor and spend it on a manual transmission. You will definately get a better launch with the manual trans and you will probably gain more HP to the wheels because autos are less efficient.

True, but an automatic tranny can build boost on the line and also you dont loose boost in between shifts...just a thought.

Exactly:D Actually I am just going to use Nitrous for now. But you get the point.

true you can build boost while staging but you are also losing a lot more hp to the wheels. i have seen a friends friend with a turbo automatic integra swap out his tranny for a manual type and he was running a lot better times and he loves the auto to manual switchover.

L10 gets their torque convertors from Protorque www.protorque.com with a nice markup. I had a protorque TC on my old 87maxima and loved it. Depending on your mods you should see around 300-600rpm stall increase with full bolt ons. The downsides of the TC is that car the doesn't *creep* as fast anymore when off the brakes. My TC was $395 and it was worth every penny. Also playing with tire size will have dramatic effects on ET/trap. In some cases a smaller tire gives more trap with same ET. Sometimes bigger tires give less trap but lower ET.

Hey Nismo87SE thanks for the info. Yeah I know about the tire size thing, I was using 185/60/14's at the track, and I guess when I get it going again I am going to use my friends 20/6/14 slicks.

Ok today I talked to both Level 10 and Pro torque. The level 10 converter's stall is supposed to be between 2400 and 3800, and protorques is between 2300 and 2800. I guess they are actually different. They said the stall varies with the horsepower of the motor. This is new to me. With the mods below what do you guys think mine would be. I want to know what RPM I will be able to launch at. TIA

Also the Level 10 is $500 and the Protorque is $400, have any of you gotten different prices?

I recall reading a SCC article entitled "Evil Egg" where the car was a turboed SR20VE and it had an automatic Transmission. They justified this by stating that an automatic tranny handles the power better. Also, Its speculated that James Farrer's car includes an automatic transmission in its new setup. Also, at the PA meet Nathan Weaber of IMS told me he wants to convert his 419 HP 200SX to automatic. I think its undisputed that Level 10 is the premiere builder of an automatic race transmission. Therefore, I'd say That..

Level 10 Auto Tranny + Boost = Great performance

Another thing to think about is this:

Manaul Tranny + Boost = Traction Problem

Just a thought.

true but you can also use a msd two step to build boost while launching...........

For now I just want to keep my automatic, but before I buy the Level 10 converter I would like to have a better estimate of what RPM I will be able to launch it at. The 2k stock isn't very good. I launch slowly and then have to catch up to people.

hmmm just noticed you are in TN, where at?

But level10 usualy likes you to bring the car up then they dyno it and put a specfic converter on to match it to the car that way. Know doc lew had to do that, and pretty sure carl did too. you could just slap any old converter on it but doing it this way is much better. for a stockish engine ie no boost, somewhere near 3000 shouldnt be bad.

Yeah they said that I would have to send them my converter and tell them everything that was done to the car, and they would decide on it that way. Oh and I live in Columbia, about an hour from Nashville.

Hey I just noticed that your car is Automatic, have you ever run it at the drag strip? Just curious.

Nope she never been to the strip. Auto crossed a few times but thats about it. Not much for straight line stuff. But shes become my highway whore. Looking for another se-r for playing with ***.

You should come up for some of our dyno days, or auto crosses. the next one im sure we all are going to is the night race in september

My new motor is supposed to be here between tomorrow and next tuesday. I guess I will hold off on the converter for now as I want to drive my car again. I will try and make it up in september for the autocross. Never done that before. Definately interested in the dyno though.
