: B14 exhaust questions.........
metro_se-r 08-12-2002, 04:29 AM Well, I'm looking for a new exhaust for my 97 se-r. I would definetly prefer a cat-back to the axle-back. What I wanted to know is, should I buy aftermarket or go with a custom setup. If aftermarket, what brand and why? If custom, what are the advantages and disadvantages? thanks for the input...
98sr20ve 08-12-2002, 08:53 AM I think your two basic choices are Greddy and HKS for the premade. I am in the process of getting a custom 2.5 inch put on my car. Right now it rattles and melted my rear bumper cover a little. They "were" charging me 325 for an all Magnaflow setup but now it needs to be fixed. I would not do the custom unless I got to watch them work to insure they did a good job. Make sure they use a mandrel bend that is well away from the beam. This is a problem area on our cars. Also the suspension being under preasure (not just hanging) helps you know if it is right.
jacen99SE 08-12-2002, 09:53 AM I have a custom. I asked some other car people who they went to that could weld stainless. The car was driven onto a lift and raised, so the tires were supported and the ride height was correct. I was under the car with the guy during this process. These are the points 98sr20ve already brought up.
I have a courtesy b-pipe (shortened for the 98-99 cars, you don't have to worry about this) and a dynomax ultra-flo # 17289
http://www.dynomax.com/documents/ultrafloss_specs.pdf
and a stainless tip that exits past the bumper cover. I added the tip a couple weeks later, and it really quieted the noise inside the car.
I also had an additional flexible hanger (support) added from the b-pipe to the car frame above the rear axle. The pipe would move sideways and hit the lip of the gas tank cover during turns, and this fixed it.

What is this and how much does it cost? What is the internal size? Does it go over the rear axle and solve this issue?
Also, I forgot to mention that their is a group buy on the Stroumung exhaust going on.

I know someone selling his Courtesy, and he had it on a '98 SE. The strange thing, it that his car is the same as yours.

Is it still for sale? I was just told by Brian at Courtesy Nissan that they are actually 60 mm (2 3/8 inches). And that they are all made for the 95-97 but that any muffler shop can shorten it to make it fit right. It also bolts up to the stock muffler. Cant see why you would want to use the stock muffler?? It would be easy to then install a rear muffler becuase it only has two bends at that point.
eric96ser 08-12-2002, 03:11 PM As of saturday, he still had it for sale. He had it shortened, and had the kink where the muffler bolts on taken out. He wants $150 for the exhaust and muffler.

What kind of muffler and how do I get a hold of him?
metro_se-r 08-12-2002, 07:57 PM All of a sudden this thread just lost all of its meaning........
Anyone have HKS???
SE-Romeo 08-13-2002, 08:59 AM I was considering either Greddy or HKS, but then the whole custom exhaust idea came to mind. Woudl you ahve a better chance gaining more HP out of the custom exhaust? Which woudl cost more?

You would get good gains from a larger mandrel bent b pipe, attached to a straight through muffler, that isnt glass packed...
So something like the article linked, a megaphone type makes good midrange and top end, while a Apex'i N1 style makes good top end, but these are louder...
civicdragon 08-14-2002, 12:05 AM Thank you =) here is my solution to those boring exhausts that i find for the Sentra/NX/200SX... A nice 60mm b-pipe and add on an Apex'i Dunk muffler =)
I wonder if this will be enough for a small turbo (T28)?
SR20steve 08-14-2002, 12:57 AM I went to the courtesy nissan website, and I couldnt find anything about a B-pipe for my car, so they do sell it though right?Does anyone know how much the b-pipe is? or if anyone is selling one please let me know I am planning on getting exaust this weekend.
