What does the power steering fluid sensor do, is it required?

I think it tells the ECU pressure in the pipe so that the engine can maintain sufficient idle when under load (steering) when at low RPM or something like that ??

I want to remove the very horrible line thats bolted to my strut tower. I want to relocate it / do it in braid. directly from the power steering pump into the rack. Do I have to retain the sensor? Can I do new pipe in braided line, with the sensor in it? or without?

Anyone done it? Anyone know anything about it?
