: S15 Spec-S turbo install questions

I've acquired an S15 Spec-S (SR20DE, 10:1, etc, etc) for $2800 (cheap even for here). The motor is in very good shape, compression test is good across the board, everything is mechanically sound.

So, I'd like to turbo my S15 using all stock SR20DET parts, which I can get for very cheap or free.

S13/14/15 turbo (whichever one I get for a good deal).
FMIC setup
turbo injectors
S-AFC
DET exhaust manifold
turbo-back exhaust
uprated fuel pump

Anything else? I'm not looking to make big power with this, just a nice looking reasonably fun car without spending a ton of money.

As far as the install goes, I'll be running the turbo oil cooled only, and I know the DET block has a tap for a oil line, but can I run the oil feed to the turbo from any other source? Maybe tee off of the pressure sending unit or filter, or is that too much pressure for the turbo?

Can I run the stock wastegate actuator on this motor (I think 8-9psi)?

Any other info I need? I read over a lot of the stickies, but not many of them answered these kinds of questions.

Thanks for your help!

I find that the turbo stickies have suffered a bit the last few years.

Most people use the oil pressure sending unit and stainless steel feed line with various hose ends. There are a few for sale in the turbo section right now. At least go look at the pics and see what they look like. Also you need to run a restricctor in the lone to keep the turbo from getting too much oil, so there's plenty of pressure to feed it.

I see no reason why you couldn't run the stock wastegate atuator, but if you really have flat-top pistons be careful. I just blew up my 10:1 motor with a GTiR T-28 :) Tuning tuning tuning.

Two vendors on this forum sell the kits;
Go fast Depot sells oil line kits, and Gspec sells an oil distribution block by Custom Steel that allows you to also run an oil pressure gauge off of, while keeping the stock idiot light and feeding your turbo.

There's some info in the Turbo FAQ too.

You will need an oil pressure restrictor fitting(I bought mine from ATP Turbo) to reduce the oil pump pressure feed to the turbo bearings so that the seals do not split. You will need a -4AN line for this which is easy.

I would strongly suggest running the turbo in water cooled configuration as it really needs to disappate the heat from the turbo. Easiest way of doing this is a few -4 or -6 fittings and running off the throttle body coolant hoses in a big loop just to get some coolant running through the turbo. Quite easy way of doing it :)

x2 on the water cooling. I think i have been using the tb lines ever since my car has been turbo. Be careful with the tune, the 10:1 has a bit smaller of a margin for error in the tuning window. I was running my gt2871r at 20 psi with my 10:1 but one of my injectors failed and blew a nice hole in the #3 piston.

Lesson learned never install used injectors without getting them cleaned and flowed at rc.
