: in the process of swapping a DET into my car right now..

and I have a question. Last night I was doing some more research and ended up reading the SCC article that George wrote oh-so-many months ago about putting the DET into his G20. After reading it I have one question. In there it says that the rod bearings need to be replaced when the swap is performed. Is this true? The DE has been prepped to be pulled and I wanted to get some more information on this before I throw the motor in this weekend. Thanks for your help.

btw, if this is the wrong forum I'm sorry..

You don't have to, but it's recommended while the motor is out because it's a lot easier.

So I should just buy new DE ones then? Do you have an idea as to what I'm looking to spend at a dealership?

Thanks again. :)

Yes, the DE ones are right. Mine were $90 CDN.

Actually I was told to get a number off the bottom of the block when the oil pan is removed as well as a number on the back of one of the crank counterweights in order to get the correct bearing.
By the way. What issue of SCC has the DET swap article?

People make this way harder than it really is, if you haven't spun a bearing and in some cases even if you have it is still readable. Just remove the connecting rod caps and use the part number on the bearing (go right to the source). I have done this atleast half a dozen time with success. Note: only because I have done this more than a couple time don't be surprised if the bearing you order come with a new revised part number, it's just been updated and is still the corrrect grade you ordered.

Heres a example with specs from my Avenir SR20DET

JDM SR20DET ROD BEARING CLEARANCES

BEFORE SPECS WITH OLD BEARINGS NISSAN AVENIR SR20DET

CYLINDER 1 2 3 4

CLEARANCE .O40mm .040mm .039mm .050mm

PART# 12111 60J00 12111 60J00 12111 60J00 12111 60J00

STANDARD: .020mm - .045mm

LIMIT: .090mm

AFTER SPECS NEW BEARINGS

CLEARANCE .040mm .040mm .040mm .039mm

PART# 12111 1N500 12111 1N500 12111 1N500 12111 1N500

NOTE: BEARING PART# 12111 60J00 IS SUPERCEDED BY PART # 12111 1N500
BOTH ARE STANDARD GRADE 0

Oh yeah, and another question. Will those part #s be the same as the ones in the U13 BB DET? Since the motor is down in Houston (I won't be there till Saturday night) I can't exactly open it up right now to look at the #s, and I need to get to a Nissan dealership before I go down. Time is of the essence on this swap.

pdr those numbers I posted were for my engine they could be or could not be the same for you. But it just so happens to be that everyone of the USDM DE's and JDM DET including BB's happened to all be grade 0 from the factory I guess they have good machine man but I don't think it would uncommon to find an engine with another grade 1,2,3 from the factory those posted in the above post are from my particular SR20DET engine and yes the BB, Avenir, USDM DE, and JDM DE use the same type of connecting rod bearings although they may come with a different grade bearing 0,1,2,3 from the factory do to machineing tolerances (there not going to toss a crank because its not a grade 0 thats why there is alternate grades). Hope this help.

Are there any Nissan parts dealers online?

There's nissanparts.cc which is cool for checking part numbers and prices, but you should call
Courtesy Nissan www.courtesynissan.com , or
Mossy Nissan www.mossyperformance.com
They are very familiar with the Forum and Mailing list, and will give you a 25% discount on parts.
