: Idle Problems
nsracer 08-14-2002, 02:44 PM Alright, here's the thing: starting the car in the morning can sometimes be troublesome, not that it doesn't want to start, but that it doesn't want to idle! Once it warms up, it's fine. You're probably thinking AACV, right? But, here's the kicker... when I kick on the AC, the car won't idle up at all!! AC comes on and the revs drop to like 400 rpms!! Sometimes the fucker will stall even! And this is with the car cold OR warm (doesn't matter). IACV is functioning (got it to raise the idle), TPS is adjusted, timing is at 15.. I'm stumped! Anyone? Other than that, the car runs great; it just doesn't like to idle! Suggestions.....
96BlkSE-R 08-17-2002, 01:49 AM My guess is a faulty TPS, but you've checked that. I'm kinda stumped now. Since I installed my G20 ECU, mine tries to stall sporadically with the A/C on, but I don't run the A/C that often, so I just deal with...
Sorry - I know this wasn't much help...
SER2FAST 08-17-2002, 03:07 AM First thing, check your clutch fork. Nah, j/k man. On the IAC there are two valves, one adjusts the idle mainly. The other valve is for the fast idle control when the ac switch comes on. Pull the connector for the cylinder looking part of the IAC that sticks out. It is on the bottom part of the IAC. With the connector disconnected, start the car and check voltage between the pin on the left when you are looking at the end of the connector with the clip on top. You should be getting 12 volts between the pin on the left and chassis ground when the AC is on and the blower is on. If you are getting 12 volts then make sure the pin on the right has continuity with chassis ground. If that connecter checks out then it is a problem with the fast idle valve. You can actually apply 12 volts to the valve and you should hear it click. If it doesn't you might take it apart and see if it needs to be cleaned. Let me know if this helps.

LOL! J/K man! Thanks for the info... I'll check it out when I get home today.....
SeattleNX2000 08-20-2002, 09:35 PM You might check your EGR valve. My NX2000 was idling rough and if I turned on the AC, it would die. I changed a lot of parts and ended up taking it in. There was a piece of carbon the size of a BB that was holding it open. Good Luck.
nsracer 08-21-2002, 12:20 PM No EGR on the car :D It's been fixed, though. Thanks anyway..
1BAD_NX 08-21-2002, 07:11 PM I had similar prloblems as you, check out the link to my write up.

What was the fix? Ever since I installed my 96 G20 ECU, my car doesn't like to idle with the A/C on. When driving in traffic, every time I have to stop the engine tries to stall. Before the ECU install, it idled fine with A/C on...
Do I have a IAC problem or an ECU problem? My ECU is still under warranty from the seller (salvage yard), so I can get another if this one won't behave...
Tips, ideas - I'm going to test my fast idle IAV tonight when I get home.
TIA...
Black200sxSER 08-23-2002, 05:54 PM my idle dropped a little when I put the G20 ecu in too.I just adjusted it and its been fine ever since.

On most cars there are two items that control idle. One controls the base idle the other adds more air when AC kicks on. One is the IACV and the other is the IACV-AAC The IACV-AAC is the one that control the idle when the AC kicks in. AAC stands for Auxiliary Air Control. On my car it is right near the IACV (the one with the idle screw on it). It has two wire going to it and the resistance should be 10 ohm at 77F. You can also check the plunger for sticky movement and a broken spring by pressing the plunger. The info I give is out of a 95 FSM just for reference. Good luck.
96BlkSE-R 08-24-2002, 12:36 AM It is my IACV-AAC that is causing my problem. It's a little sticky.
So, that being the case, what do I clean it with? Or, should I just seek a new part from Mother Nissan?
TIA
98sr20ve 08-24-2002, 06:57 AM WD40 should do it. Don't overclean the grease away from the plunger.
