: Removing Stripes / Debanding
akapaul 08-14-2002, 04:20 PM I started removing the (factory?) stripes on my se-l (pic over here: http://directgalaxy.com/se-r/99_se-l/DSCN0798.JPG)
I am about 80% done, but I can NOT take the rest off. They seemed to be holding hard. Any suggestions? The first 80% came off very easily...
Also, I want to take that "SENTRA" badge off. Any ideas on how this can be done carefully and thus not ruining the paint, etc, etc...
Thanks in advance :)
99SENTRASER 08-14-2002, 06:00 PM you just have to do it very carefully. i took my "sentra" badge off in about 20 minutes. it looks cleaner. just make sure that the adhesive comes off with each letter.
sr20ser 08-14-2002, 10:46 PM Four steps, then a bit of cleaning....
Step 1.)
Go buy some dental floss. Stop by the auto-parts store and pick up some adhesive remover while your out, because you dont floss like a good boy.
Step 2.)
Soak a rag with the adhesive remover and "dab" the stuff on the stripping. Let this soak while you go to the next step!
Step 3.)
Take the floss and wrap a length around two fingers (like you floss your teeth) and slip it behind the badge, now slowly pull up. The badge should pop right off.
Step 4.)
The stripping should be ready now. Wipe the strip again with the remover and get a spot to peel the stuff back, SLOWLY!!!
This should have taken the strip, and badge off. Now all you have to do is clean the residue off, and wash your car really good.
Hey while your at it now would be a good time to floss...:p

LOL!
BTW: thanks for the tips
jacen99SE 08-15-2002, 09:54 AM When I took the pinstriping off my car, I just let it sit in the sun, and then pulled the stripes off. I removed the residue when I used paint cleaner on the car, followed by a good wax.
I don't remember having a stripe in the rear though. Good luck.
eric96ser 08-15-2002, 10:29 AM WD40 is good at removing the residue from the badges. You can use a hairdryer to heat the letters, and maybe the pinstripes too.
bensa 08-15-2002, 10:59 AM Someone has too much time on their hands :D
I never had any stripes on my car... was thinking about debadging it as well ^_^

not really, I didn't put those stripes on in the first place, they came with the car... don't know if they are stock, but the car looks better without them IMHO
jacen99SE 08-15-2002, 01:37 PM My first blue 99SE did not come with them, I bought it new.
I bought the second one used and it did come with them.
99.se.ltd 08-15-2002, 09:19 PM bought mine used, had no pin striping. i hate pin striping, and think the silver would look stupid with any stiping.

SuPeRSenTrA 09-05-2002, 01:38 PM Something that I did that looks really good in my opinion
(and others that see it) after taking off the "SENTRA" in the back
i put it inside my car infront of the passenger seat on the dash.
Right above the glove, below the top airbag part, its center and spread
out to fit. (a couple inches between each letter)
If you understand what i mean, try that I think it looks
good gives *** passenger side a lil extra.

p.s. might wanna measure and make sure its straight
otherwise it may look weird if its off.

Post some pics :)
99.se.ltd 09-05-2002, 10:18 PM well, the badges are off mine now. just gotta find some wd-40 and get that residue off.
oh, be careful with the 'sentra'...i never realized it was a soft plastic material, and ripped the 's' in half. hope i don't decide to re-badge it one day.
SuPeRSenTrA 09-06-2002, 11:13 PM sorry, dont have any pix to show of it,
but if you have the letters why not try it,
believe me you will probly like it, if not *** take
it off wont take more than a couple minutes.
If you keep it *** *** make sure it's evenly spaced.
Makes it look neater even like they might have been
factory installed.
But...i will be taking a lot of pictures soon (thanx to
photography class and about 250 bux worth of sht
i gotta buy for it) but probly not untill like a week or
two. I will post some pix then. this and the grille
