: S13 Dreams..
Ok well I've come to a point with my 200sx where I've decided to make my 200sx more of a show car. I keep breaking it.. lol. So now I'm going to get a project car to beat up on. I've been dreaming of a S13 for quite some time now. What's the best price that someone's paid so far for the car? I've seen a couple in the local auto trader for $1000. Is there any advantages/disadvantages between the coupe and hatchback? I'm definately planning on swapping it. So I'm trying to get a manual so I don't have to install the pedals. Anyone have any tips?
dono200sx 08-15-2002, 12:39 PM Get the 91 hatchback. It weighs less and is otherwise identical to the coupe (as far as i know). :D I was planning on doing this, but I'm not going to be able to afford the swap. My gf and I are getting pretty serious and I am starting flight school at the end of the month if things fall into place with financial aid. As much as I love cars, the others are more important. BTW, I've found that the guys at www.heavythrottle.com know a lot about this particular swap.
My reccomendation would be to swap in an S13 SR20DET and get a Quaiffe differential. V8 what? :D Have fun!
EDIT: As regards FSMs, I belive what people are having to do is get an S13 FSM for the body and then another FSM for the engine. Sucks, but that is how it is... Unless someone can prove me wrong, which honestly, I hope someone can do.
importnut 08-15-2002, 01:37 PM I would suggets going with a coupe. The coupe will have a more rigid body structure (given that there isn't a huge hole in the back!)
Play with it as it is....then when you need more power, pick up an Sr20DET...probably red top.
$1000 sounds pretty good as long as it's a 5spd. No fun swapping the tranny!
Nissan240SX 08-16-2002, 01:58 PM Do what I did. I bought a 91 Nissan 240SX Fastback. With Super HICAS on board. You won't be sorry. Not to much body roll, easy swaps and easy parts to find.
Please excuse my ignorance. What is Super HICAS?
importnut 08-16-2002, 03:26 PM It's an overly complicated, expensive to repair four wheel steering setup.
I'm not a fan of it.

LONEWOLF 08-19-2002, 09:08 AM THE FASTBACK HAS a better balance than the coupe.

Well it seems that the fastbacks are more plentiful then the coupes, and I like the look of them to boot. So I'll probably keep an eye out for a good deal on one.
importnut 08-19-2002, 10:53 AM That's better balance for drifting which probably means that it's easier to swing the tail out. That's fine if you want to drift. However, if you want to drive fast, the rear should obediently follow the front not the other way around.
Don't get me wrong, drifting is fun, but it's annoying to slide sideways when you are trying to drive fast.

LONEWOLF 08-19-2002, 11:15 AM BUT MOST GUYS I KNOW that has a fastback road race. they like the option of going into a drift. and with the tein he suspension you will do little of that. and you have to like those rear lights. ;)
Nissan240SX 08-19-2002, 02:14 PM I race my car sometimes at the local drag stip when they are having import nights. I have no trouble what so ever in keeping my ass end following my front end. I guess its all in the driver.

Big difference in going straight, and taking on a real track.
dono200sx 08-19-2002, 02:32 PM I'd always heard the fastbacks were lighter weight and were better balanced. I would think the big @$$ pane of glass would weigh less than all the metal in the @$$ end of the couple. I may be wrong though.... Does anyone know where we can find the weights of both cars? I'd kinda like to know this for future reference. I might not be able to do the 240 project now, but it is always nice to be able to plan thigs out..
Fast240-T 08-19-2002, 04:28 PM The Coupe's are alot lighter than the 180's. The Coupe's weight around 2470lbs, and the 180's weight in around 2730lbs.
