Hey I think im going to start AutoXing in my 1600 and I was just wondering what mods I should do. Some people have told me to lower the car and some other things. So if you have any tips on what I should do and if possible the brands that would be best for me that would be great.
Also take in mind that im not filthy rich or anything. Hell im only 17 and this is my first car so try not to recomend anything way too expensive.
Thanks

Most people here like the Falken Azenzas' <----(sp)?
I really don't know what suspension. With my 200 I run H&R springs, and KYBs...

The good thing about autocross is you don't have to do anything to your car to run. Just make sure it's safe. Autocross for a year and as your skills improve add mods.

I'd say get shocks and tires. If your car is otherwise stock, then you can run in the stock class which is what I recommend for now. Then as you get into the groove of racing and get more familiar with the rules, you can decide what class you want to run in and mod your car accordingly.

we cant get Falkens in Vancouver yet...theres's no distributor
but yea...go for the suspension first (springs, shocks, front/rear tower bar, i dont think you'll need swaybars yet...maybe later ***)...other than handling better, the car looks good lowered too! :)

What he said. Keep your car in the stock class. Get a second set of wheels and some good tires. You can do some mods in the stock class (Shocks, Brake pads, Exhaust).

Okay so suspension as in springs? What area should I be getting? Like i know there is semi racing and full racing and there are also apparently some brand that makes an adjustible set to raise and lower your car.
Anyway do you guys know any prices or anything?

dont get full racing springs...they're very stiff and unless you're gonna build a race car, daily driving's gonna be a biatch....
Ground Control makes coil overs for our cars...i think SOS has them on...they're adjustable in ride height
i'm currently running on Suspension Technique springs...they're nice but i would've prefered an H&R set. i picked mine up at Lordco for about ~$225sh
get a good set of aftermarket shocks...i dunno about the monroes at canadian....
get KYB's they're the best...toiko's are ok...but they're cheap $
i'd also get a set of tower bars...definitely front. they stiffen the chassis and prevent it from warping...esp when you're making hard turns...

Okay Im hopeing i can get most of this stuff through canadian tries keystone catolouge cause I work there and get 15% off so that would be nice.
Anyway SOS are you using the adjustable Ground COntrol springs? If so, where can I get them and how much were they?
Also how are they for regular driving

Are you currently stock? How much mileage is on your NX?

First thing is to buy some reasonably lightweight 15" wheels (like Rota's) and high-performance tires. If you deal with nasty weather then I would recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE730's, they're a good all-season tire that do well on an autocross course.

Second is to buy some decent shocks. KYB AGX's are a good application for our cars.

Third is to go and run at least 6 autocrosses with these mods.

After that you will realize that modding a car for autocross is wasted money until the driver has been 'modified'. Driver modification takes a few years at best, but it is relatively cheap ;)

edit: I recently posted a good article about autocrossing in the motorsports forum: link (http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23807)

You can get Ground Control coilovers at www.pdm-racing.com . Don at PDM is a long time Nissan racer and he's got great prices. Keep in mind that if you have coilovers, you're going to need good shocks as well. With GCs you can specify your spring rates, so they can be as stiff or soft as you want. Mine are 350f/300r which is quite aggressive considering the entire back end of my car only weighs about 800lbs.

I still recommend that you stick with the tires and shocks for now. Those two items will make the biggest differences in performance by far. After that it's all about driving.

Make yourself fast before you try to make your car fast. It doesn't matter how fast your car can go, it's how fast YOU can make it go.

As far as the events, you can attend any autox event at Boundary Bay at any time. First timers can always just show up and race. You'll have to fill out another form or two and pay an extra couple bucks but it's no big deal.

Feel free to email me any time if you have any specific questions about signing up and attending events. I'm the VCMC Membership Director so I think I should be able to answer your questions :)

Plus I'm always willing to help out a fellow NX driver, and once you start getting comfortable racing, I have a perfect target for you in a certain green Sentra ;)

Okay yah I think ill just try for shocks/struts and new tires for now.
But right now I have the stock 13"rims and I was thinking of getting some 15" rims with low profile tires.
Could you recomend anything in a good price range? But also look good. Also what shocks/struts do you recomend?

Wheels: Rota makes good, light and cheap wheels. A rare combination. Expect to pay about $450 USD for a set.

Tires: I'm a big fan of Bridgestone Potenza RE730's for dual duty tires. If you're going to dedicate your new wheels to autocross duty then think about getting some Falken Azenis'. You want the 205/50/15 size for either tire. Bridgestones: ~$90 per tire, Falkens: ~$65 per tire. Again, USD.

Struts: KYB AGX struts are nice because you can adjust them to get your car to handle differently if you choose. Otherwise go for the standard OEM replacement struts. AGXs: ~$500 USD. OEM: ???? (a lot cheaper at least)

why dont you get stock NX2000 parts for now. springs, struts, wheels/tires, swaybars, etc. that way you are still considered "stock" but you will have a better handling car.

a friend of mine has a 1600 and he recently bought some 91-94 se-r wheels they came with some good bridge stones and a pair of good years that needed to be replaced but his car handles alot better going from his skinny 13" wheels to the 14" with the wider tires and lower profiles and they look a lot better than the steel wheels and he got them for a hundred bucks off of a car that was just siting look around you might be able to get an other good deal like that i dont think that the se-r wheels could really be that heavy
