I am trying to fix this Crank Pulley that broke on me the other day. I have a pulley puller but I cannot get the nut to budge. I am using an adjustable wrench right now, what is the exact size of the bolt? Getting air tools is pretty much out of the question, and using a socket is not possible because of the puller.....how did you guys get your pulleys off to change them?

What are your opinions on the ASP underdrive pulley?

Thanks!!!

You should loosen the bolt before putting the pulley puller on. I use a 1 and 1/16th inch closed end wrench. I believe it is a 27mm bolt, which is really close to 1 and 1/16th.

Loosen the bolt a couple turns, then use the pulley puller. Then loosen a couple more turns and use the puller again.

I haven't heard of it.

puller on it? won't it just spin?

The problem is that the outside ring seperated from the middle, so I can't put any belts on there.....any help is much appreciated!

It won't just spin. There is a slot in the pulley, which engages a woodruf key in the crank.

I just tried it without the puller on it...when I put a little force on it, it moves the whole thing. Now what?

The bolt is spinning right? That's because it's extremely tight, and you're turning the whole motor over. I don't know if you'll be able to remove the bolt without an impact gun, but your best bet will be to get a decent size breaker bar, have someone STAND on the brake pedal, and go at it in short hard tugs to try and break the bolt free. Once the bolt is out, you use the puller to pull the pulley off the crankshaft.

Be advised, there are threaded holes in the pulley. DO NOT use them to try and push the pulley off by threading long bolts through them. The bolts WILL go through the timing cover, and then you'll be in real deap doodoo.

I found this out by accident. Put a 27mm socket on a rachet, and turn the motor over a few times with the plug wires removed. I left my rachet on the crank pulley, and after puttting everything together, I started the car. It made this nasty noise, and I heard the rachet hit the ground. I just fouhg t out this week, that it loosened the bolt. The bolt was finger tight when I tried to put the motor to TDC.

I loosened the bolt by pulling the coil wire and taking a long breaker bar with the right size socket and wedged it to the ground. Then just turn the key to start it but with out starting it. You just want to tick the engine over. That will loosen the bolt.

Nice trick. I loosened mine by applying the 'PERSUADER' to a short cheater bar. I love my 3# rubber mallet....
