What is the function of the oil pressure sending unit behind the oil filter? What happens if it doesent work or the wire to the unit becomes disconnected?

Well, it's suppose to let you know if your oil pressure is low and your motor is about to self destruct. Mine didn't seem to be working so i just got rid of it when I put in my oil pressure gauge.

It simply activates the red oil pressure light on your dash if oil pressure is lost.

the oil warning light should be redone so that it says "replace engine"

that thing is practically useless, it just tells you when your bearings have died, basically.

Yeah, basically the engine knocking sound will warn you that your oil pressure light is about to turn on. :D

Is it possible to lose oil pressure by putting a "T" in the line to run to a turbo because I just finished installing my kit and even though I put 5 quarts of oil in the engine the light is still coming on. I feel hesistant to drive the car.

It shouldn't affect the oil pressure that much. I would make sure that the wiring is making proper connection with the sending unit. If it all checks out, I would try and buy an oil temp gauge at least to double check the oil pressure.

I may be way off base here but here it go's. Doe's the sensor ground through the block? If you use a brass fitting it won't work?......sorry just thinkin again :(

James--

I have a brass fitting on my tee, and the light works well at startup.

As for where the oil sending unit is, here's the easy way:
1. Jack up front of car.
2. Slide underneath, right in the middle of the car.
3. Find axles.
4. Look up and to the right.
5. Circular object threaded into the engine block, at the 2 o'clock position as you look up the 'back' side of the block. Has a wire going into it.

The sending unit is the circular thingy over on the left of this picture. Normally, it would be threaded into the block, flush.

thanks for the help guys. Greg how did you get the fitting to mount like it did in that photo? i thought it was supposed to be threaded into the block? did you find a way to plug that part off?

So whats the best way of removing it from the block without messing it up??? Also is it a male or female end on the block or sensor.

Thanks

The oil fitler housing is female and the sensor male. The thread is 1/8 BSPT. They actually sell a special socket at most parts stores that will fit on the sensor perfectly, this is probably the easiest way to get the sensor off because its pretty tight if the engine is in the car.
