A while back I bought an Ebay consult emulator cable, which worked fine for a while. After using it 10 or so times with no problems, I was receiving the error codes from my 93 NX2000 when the battery in the laptop dislodged itself and killed the laptop (during data transfer). Since then it won't work on either the NX or my 92 G20. I have reloaded Windows XP on the laptop as well as the drivers for the USB-Serial adapter cable. I even lugged my desktop to the garage and tried it straight from a serial port to rule out the USB-Serial adapter...still no communication. I've tried it with various software: SRTalk, DDLReader, ECUTalk etc... which all worked before the incident.
Thought I'd ask for input before I spend $100 on a new Blazt cable.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought too ;). Looks like a new cable is in order. I checked the Ebay cable to see if any components would be easy to swap and got a pretty good chuckle. The IC chips have been smoothed over with a Dremel or something to hide the part numbers. Gotta love that Chinese ingenuity.

Here's some pictures from my camera phone. I let a friend borrow my real camera. Sorry the pictures are of such poor quality.

It's a double-sided board...but only resistors or caps on the other side. I can try to get better pictures if you'd like. Might take a day or two though.

Probably the Communications Port number was changed.. Happens sometimes when something is added or removed, or new drivers are loaded.
Just Plug in your Data Cable:
1. In XP, go to the Device Manager: Control Panel/System/Hardware tab/Device Manager button
2. Open the + beside Ports and note the assigned port number for the USB cable. OR You can look under USB and open the properties of the rs232 cable for the port number (last tab).
Exit all Device Manager & Control Panel.
3. Open each program and enter the new communcations port number assigned by XP.
This should fix your problem.
No servicable parts on the rs232 board. Close it before you break something! :)

sorry didnt see reply before - would need much better pictures to see if anythings wrong (you can unsocket the connector/wires to make it easier to see).
but there would only be very few parts on it you could actually fix/remove and not affect the operation, so i wouldnt bother - if u determine its the cause, get another

I messed with the port selection process quite a bit and couldn't get it to work. One of the programs, maybe Scantech...I can't remember, can be used to search for the port in use. It didn't find anything either.

I gave up after a few tries and bought a Blazt cable on Ebay. Works like a champ. Thanks for the help guys...I'll just use the old adapter as a paperweight or something :biggthump
