: B14 VRS Exhaust Videos
redcap3000 10-07-2008, 11:12 PM Here's some videos I just put up.. of my autotragic 99 sentra se
the first is before the header install (when I was rolling around w/ a cracked hotshot gen 3 header.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbI6UXH2jMw
The second is with the VRS 2.25 aluminized steel (with resonator) catback exhaust and a 2" stainless steel SSAC header.

Other mods are - Injen CAI, 91 cams (intake cam adv 2.5 degrees), 17 degrees timing, tein ss, ad22's.
I'll be taking more videos because I've been doing more work, and been playing around with my TPS sensor rotation, would like to install my g20 ecu etc. etc...
Tell me what you think of the sound...
Petelite 10-08-2008, 03:37 AM Exhaust sounds sweet, the auto shifts sound kinda cool also. Does it get annoying after some time on the highway?
redcap3000 10-08-2008, 01:47 PM Its actually a lot better on the highway when I take off the over drive and lightly touch it it screams to redline like its got a supercharger or something, if I mash it I hear the roar of the CAI and it drops a gear (if under 85 mph, I think) This thing is crazy fast on the highway. If I'm not careful it hits 105 on the spedo. Its annoying if I'm going up a steep grade (do it all the time on the highway) at I don't have enough speed (say I'm doing at or near the speed limit), the revs stay at between 3 and 3.5, this is when its the loudest.
But if I rev it up or am reving past 4.5k it sounds (as another forum member put it) "Very expensive."
It got a lot smoother after I removed the metal plate thats on the stock cat, the mechanics that put on the exhaust only put the plate on with two bolts (instead of four). So after a while It started to have this loud vibration at different RPMS (very very annoying.) They also didn't put my spash guard back in the front near the oil pan... so theres a bit more mechanical noise.
Only down side is I can hear the pipes knocking around if I'm going down a bumpy hill (do it all the time) or am taking certain right-hand turns at different engine speeds (getting used to it...) but I know the pipe is banging against what looks like my fuel tank. Also the tailpipe is a little off, but thats because of my saggy bumper.
Another downside - everyone and their mother wants to race this beast (sometimes) :) I remember this truck got pissed at me because he couldn't keep up (this was at speeds at or near the speed limit, for me anyway) so he honked at me when he was stuck behind a car making a right turn. Once we got to the twisty f'ed up roads that lead to the highways (they're all pretty much like that here), I bolted off.
Another time I was with my girl coming home from grocery shopping and this blue RSX with texas plates totally bolted off the line to cut me off. I didn't mind, because I didn't even know he was racing! I kept up however (at reasonable speeds), despite being car lengths behind, and making an immediate left turn.
Its a little dangerous being this loud. But no problems from cops whatsoever. Of course I don't drive like a 16 year old with a rice rocket.
Another downside, my brakes are getting a serious workout sometimes. Before the car would slow itself down, now it seems the car speeds itself up when coasting, so you need more braking power.. its a good thing I have ad22's with some good pads - but my right rotor is getting more and more warped.
Petelite 10-09-2008, 01:27 PM Yeah, loud exhaust has its downsides, I had my miata straight piped for a week (sounded terrible) but even with normal driving people would pull over thinking I impatiently wanted to pass. That was kind of nice, actually.
I'm back to stock exhaust on my SE-R since the magnaflow was too loud, but with the increased restriction it revs a lot slower, which I don't like.

reads like you DO drive like a 16 yr old kid. and in city traffic no less.
Petelite 10-09-2008, 10:52 PM I think everyone drives like a 16 year old kid from time to time. Especially when you've got a new exhaust.

I drive like everyone else around here, but just louder. Watch the videos. You tell me. You'll see people cutting me off just as much as I do them, its a cali thing, people drive in slow in the fast lane, so you have people driving fast in the slow lane.
Its not that I'm doing 105 on city streets (yes the highway that was designed at speeds of 110 mph and up, hwy 280) everyone does at least 75- if not 85. Cops won't blink if they see you cruising at 90, cutting people off, going over 110, etc. yes maybe. But I haven't been served a single ticket since I've been driving in California (almost three years). City streets are bad and hilly, you have to drive fast if you want to make it up a steep hill, but its not like I'm taking it past 40mph.
And if you really wanted to stir something up, I actually drive much more aggressively than I did at 16.
