My ? is I want to go with a 3 inch exhaust. I have to go and get my emissions test done and I have a gutted cat
I don't want to take the exhaust off and on for emissions. Sooo will it do me any good to go 2.5, downpipe and cat to a 3 inch exhaust? Or is it only benifitual if it's 3 inch from the downpipe without the cat?
I want to have my cake and eat it to :)
Check sig for mods.

The 3" exhaust from the cat back will still help. I'd just get a random tech cat and leave it there. It's not like you're racing for money and need every extra HP :) If anything, it's easy to switch out the cat for a test pipe when you need it.

What about a 3 inch cat from the 2.5 inch downpipe? Worth the $?

Actually, my 3in cat was cheaper then a 2.5 or 2.0in cat. Summitracing.com. I have yet to install it though, seeing as emissions isn't up until next August. Test pipe for me.

I agree. A street car has no business running a non-functional catalytic converter. The OEM cat has little backpressure, so there's very little to gain by removing it. Don't get larger than stock as it can't stay hot enough to work properly.
Unless you race your car professionally, keep the cat.
