What is the best way to go? I know a couple of you guys have front mounts with your 98 SE-R bumper cover. What size is the best? Did you have to trim?

Sam,
I'm glad to see that you're leaning away from a VE and towards BOOST! Why don't you come up to Boynton and drive my 98 sometime? Yes, drive the car! All I ask is that the wheels are pointing straight when you hit the gas :D

BTW check my post in the ****pick up the damn phone *** thread for a link to pics of a hotshot fmic on my 98. It's a great kit. Yes, you have to trim the nose a bit. Nothing structural.

Seriously, you're welcome to come anytime.

Cheers,
Charlie :)

I carry Forge Motorsport intercoolers. They are 26.77" x 6.29"x 2.25" with endtanks. Beautiful welds also. Email me @ louisanaya@hotmail.com for more info.

Oh hell yeah! I might just do that! How far are you from Tampa? It might make for a good family outing.

I'm thinking about a kit based around a T28 - 225 hp or so, but with extra "breathing" room. I was trying to find a website for the Forge intercoolers, but had no luck. Checking ebay, I'm gonna need about $300-$500 for a FMIC (or at least that's what I'm budgeting). Seems like the big items are the turbo, FMIC and ECU. :(

BTW, what STB are you using? I have a crappy one that I have to tilt forward to clear the emissions stuff on the intake mani.

this is how the forge fits behind the 98 bumper, perfectly, IMHO

only had to trim about 1/4-1/2 an inch off the inside of the bumper skin, the bumper support remains untouched

if you guys feel adventurous, you can do what i did, which is buy the 2" U-bends from JCwhitney, and buy the Forge IC (which is larger than the HKS one in the hotshot kit) and make your own IC pipes, which is really easy, easier than the ~$400 it would cost for just the piping.

the pipes cost ~$50 and welding would run you about $50-100.

Its actually all that custom shat that makes me nervous when thinking about turbo. I would rather get the HS kit IMO and have it professional and done by someone who knows more than do.
I know a lot of people do their own piping though, and it comes out great.

That is what I think also. I know the HS intercooler is kinda small but, I think it will do good for a T25 and I know the piping will just go right in and I don't need to worry about customizing things.

fine, buy the pipes only and cut them a little shorter for the forge unit.

as mike k would say "do you want to go fast, or do you want to suck?"

If you mount the Forge just rigth on the B14's you only have to cut about a 1/2" piece of the backing on the bumper reinforcement off. It is a very good fitting intercooler and you cant beat the price that Louis sells them for. I just installed one on a project car for a customer of mine. I can post some pictures if anybody would like them.

Do you know if the inlet and the outlet are the same as on the HKS that Hotshot sells? You guys keep saying B14 but what if I have a B13, how will that fit and how much are we talking for a IC that is about 24 inches long?

Ya'll are more than welcome to take a spin in the car. I'm in Palm Beach County, just South of West Palm Beach. Drop me a PM, and we can hook up.

Cheers,
Charlie :)

Um I thought the HS kit was only for the 200sx? I don't really know though, so...???

I was thinking about doing what you are saying...get the forge IC then HS piping, but I think I would still rather just have it in a whole package. Thanks for the advice though. I have time to think about it so I shall consider it.

WOW Charlie thats so nice of you. I remember your car from the WPB meetup in June or July...whenever it was. Your kit looked pretty nice I like your intercooler setup. How much did HS charge you for it. Did you have to shave the bumper to get it to fit?
