Well, today is the day! The Pacesetter will be at my doorstep in a few hours to come! According to UPS it is less than 30 miles away!

I plan to paint it with hi temp paint similar to the fashion Greg Perry painted his. But, I'm sick right now and feelin a little lazy so I don't think I want to sand it down.

Can I just put on a few coats of high temp paint over the regular black paint and be done with it? TIA.

No, the black temporary shipping paint will burn off and take the silver high temp with it.

I actually have Greg's PS header now. What I did was take a drill and bought a metal bristle brush and just sanded the primaries with that. Put two coats of High Temp paint on it and here it is:

personally i would never stoop to the level of quality pacesetter offers for my ser. the sunfire has a pacesetter header, it was cheap and it worked well..however it now has gigantic cracks in the secondaries. the metal is too thin to weld anything that will last.

Everyone has their own opinion. :D

Mine is well over 4 years old and did have a crack in the 1-4 primary a few months ago, but I had it welded and still running strong. from what I know, I am the third owner of this one.

Just take a rag and wipe that factory paint right off it.. (Edit: using lots of paint thinner.)Then spray a few coats of high temp paint on it.. doesn't take long at all.. i used bbq paint from home depot.. we had to widen the holes that slip over the studs also.. i have the pacesetter exhaust too and i painted the tip flat black with rustoleum also from home depot.. been through one winter and no rust except for the downpipe. no leaks either.. i was under the car last weekend putting on the ST front sway bar and it all looks good..

the pacesetter bashing is just getting old at this point.. every aftermarket manufacturer has put out stuff that doesn't fit perfectly.. and every header maker has had some crack etc...

Thank you!!

Its like every few weeks someone has to say something bad about the pacesetter. For price per hp, its the best mod you can get...PERIOD!

NismoPC, your header came out real good. Did you stick it in the oven to bake the temp on there, or did you put it on, and drive the car around til the paint cured?

it could definetly be construed from my post that i'm bashing pacesetter..however i'd like to consider it more as my advocating of learning from one's own mistakes instead.

I just painted it one coat, then dried, another coat, then dried, and then just did a final touch up coating. Once it fully dried, I installed it and that was it. No oven process at all. Had a slight odor for about 10-15 mins. and very slight amount of smoke, but that was it.

When I received it, Greg Perry had used POR-20 prior to sending it to me, but since I had to prepare the crack to be welded, I decided to sand the whole primaries down and repaint it with the high temp paint. I am pleased with the outcome.

Hey NismoSER

Did you get your PS yet? How was the quality of the product? Just wondering since they are manufactured in house now!

Pictures if possible. Thanks!

The Pacesetter looks like a cow after a while. Big black blocthes everywhere. :D

I would definitely recommend painting it right the first time.
So start sanding!! :D ;)

It looks great how long ago did you paint it?

Hmm? I'd say maybe 2 months ago. Not showing any signs of burning off or turning color. I used some Rustoleum Specialty High Heat silver paint. It is a enamel paint and had rust preventive properties. Oh hell! It performs great! It looks good. That's all that matters, right? :D

How about wrapping the header with that heat wrap stuff...doesnt look pretty but does two jobs

It will keep moisture in and increase the formation of heavy rust on the Pacesetter especially if it was not painted first. I believe this topic was discussed some time in the past.

yes...do NOT wrap the header. there is a reason it voids the warranty. this is what increased the rusting of my header on the downpipe portion. i also feel that it interfers with the natural cooling process of the steel and it causes added stress on it. this is one thing i did learn..and i unwrapped my header after finding the exhaust blowing out of it through the cracks in the header. this would contribute to my disliking of pacesetter and the blame may not be entirely of pacesetter.
