: Help with Front Swaybar install...

Ok, so I got a used front sway from a junkyard and got all of the parts from nissan (sans bushings, they are left over from the ST install). I put the two bushings/clamps on the botton of the carholding it to the frame, I put in the end links and got one end in.

Unfortunately it looks like the other end is about an inch too far in to attach to the other endlink. LIke the endlink should be an inch longer so it can thread through the eyelet of the swaybar.

I've lowered the car and tried it with the wheels on the ground (so the strut is compressed) as well as with both wheels off of the ground, and they still don't meet.

I've loosened the bushing clamps to give it some play and it still doesn't quite meet up. I've tightened down the endlinks thinking that the bushings were too thick, but that's not it either. It's almost like either the bar is not wide enough or the endlinks are the wrong ones and not long enough.

Anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

Thanks.

Todd in the bay area.

I would recommend driving up on some ramps to see if that helps. I know you said you tried it on the ground, but maybe the suspension hadn't settled. I just put the ES front mounts on, and I didn't have any problems, but I did use ramps. Previously, on my Civic, I didn't use ramps and it was a pain in the ass to get them up. Once again, buy some ramps for $40 and see if that helps. Just my $0.02.

So it happens that there is a right and wrong way to put on swaybars.

I was bolting it to the body first and then trying to bolt it to the endlinks. The way I actually got the bar to mount was bolting on the endlinks to the bar, then the endlinks to the lower control arms, THEN bolt the bar to the body.

This way works, trust me.

Anyone the the bay area want a used front sway bar that I'm pretty sure fits 91-94 classics?

BACK FROM THE DEAD!!!!

All the front sway bushings are worn, so I can't exactly tell how to replace them. I jsut got back from looking under the car and looking at the Haynes and I see 3 places for bushings on each end, plus the two for the "U" part. But the ES kit came with 4 bushings of similar size - two with an inner lip that juts out from the center.

So, are the two bushings for each side supposed to be installed on the control arm with the lipped bushing (on top, facing down) going into the unlipped one (from the bottom)?

The link that connects the sway to the control arm also looks likes it has lipped bushing on it, but I'm not sure because it's all ripped up.

I wish I had a digital camera... :(

WOW... car feels completely different from replacing just one bushing. Well, since I didn't HAVE a bushing there, it's more obvious! :)

But I want to clarify... from bottom to top...

Is it..
- 17mm nut, washer, grooved bushing, control arm, lipped-bushing facing down, then washer?

I still feel like I should have three new washers on each side... hmm...

This should work -- washers on the outside, one lipped and one grooved bushing sandwiching the control arm (with lip/groove facing each other).
