Greg Perry taught me the "chill the bottle trick" so I put it in the freezer overnight. Usually I can only get 2 or 3 pounds into the bottle without turning on the compressor but this time we got 8.5 pounds in!! We turned the compressor on and next thing I know, there's 12 pounds in the bottle! Is this ok?

Jason you mind clarifying this 'chill the bottle' technique?? Do you mean you freeze the bottle overnight before you fill it up so you can squeeze more into the tank or something??

yeah, if the bottle is cold, the gas "wants" to go from the warm mother bottle your colder nitrous tank... it's better to get as much in without the assistance of the air compressor (I believe... seems more "pure"). I had a great deal of air in my tank from my first fill and I think this method will stop that from happening.

...part of the reasoning behind this is as the warm gas goes into the cold cylinder, it warms the cylinder up slightly causing it to expand slightly and thereby causing a "sucking" reaction...

...the other part of the reasoning is the "Zeroth law of Thermodynamics" which states that every thermodynamic system that is in thermal equilibrium has an important physical property called its temperature T. So the cylinders are at different temperatures upon hookup and while they try to equalize their respective temperature, a certain volume of gas is moved from the warmer system to the colder one...

pardon the long response, I'm learning this now myself... it's very interesting when you see it happen!

Ahhhh interesting! That makes sense. Thank you for shedding some light into that.

i dont know much about nitrous but ive seen people heat their bottles with a blowtorch before their runs, i know why they do it, to give the bottle a higher pressure, but still it looks like to me that if you needed more pressure their would be a safer way to go about it..

Yes a bottle heater/warmer is MUCH safer than heating the bottle yourself.
