My ds axle seal seems to be leaking after I had the tranny off recently. I know its not the seal itself b/c its new. When I pried the axle out I dented that round lip on the cv joint. I fixed it the best that I could but am curious about how much it does it do to seal the tranny. The other culprit could be a thin rubber gasket that goes around the axle in the recess near the back of the cv joint. It fell off of the axle and I put it back on before installing. I guess it may have fallen partially out of place when I pounded the axle back into the tranny and is not in the right position. Has anyone had experience with either of these issues? Thanks.

I would agree with JDM_2ner. When inserting the seals you have to make sure that they are flush with the tranny case. Make sure that you didn't push them in as far as they could go. Also, depending on how badly you dented the seal that could be the problem too.

The seals are flush with the tranny so I know its not that. Its either the lip on the axle or that thin rubber gasket on the axle thats the problem.
