: 92 SE-R weighs 2480 pounds
se-r sam 08-21-2002, 12:50 PM I weighed my car today. 2480 pounds +or - 10.
This weight is with 1/2 tank of gas and no sound deadening, carpet padding, or tar anywhere in the car from the firewall back. The rear speakers are gone also, as is the middle seat belt and half the clips that hold the interior pieces on. The trunk only has the spare tire and jack in it.
I had my 15" wheels (14 pounds each) and heavy Yokohama tires (11 pounds each) on when the car was weighed.
blairellis 08-21-2002, 05:19 PM what is the weight from the factory?
eric96ser 08-21-2002, 05:55 PM Oh boy, here we go again.

And the point of this is to do what? Shed all of maybe a pound of weight? That was hardly worth your time. You could have shed more weight having bought lighter rims from the get go. :) I apologize, I'm starting to be a prick. (Then again, when have I ever stopped? ;)) To each his own I guess, if you feel it was worth it, really, that's all that matters. God, this biting my tongue thing is really tough, and starting to hurt. :)

I feel ya.
I dremmeled out every big hunk of metal that served no purpose.
YIKES!!!
I'll weigh mine one day.

All I was doing was posting the weight of my car and what was removed from it. I tried to give a truthful assesment of what was removed, not ask for silly questions.

This may be true, however, I found it silly to spend that much time removing half the interior clips in your car. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that removing them is more silly than entertaining the idea of some sort of electric blower on an intake. But as you'll see, people were more than happy to crap on that idea, yet nobody but me has questioned your removing of interior clips to shave weight, despite that an electric intake blower would produce more gains than the removal of numerous light weight plastic clips. But I digress. I also mentioned that obviously you found it worthwhile, and that's all that really matters. If I'm not free as a forum member to respond to your post in a way I see fit, you should have asked a moderator to lock it after your initial post, that way you wouldn't have to endure my silly questions. I think that if I posted a thread that said, "Well I decided to remove every third screw from my car in an attempt to shave weight and having weighed it afterward, it weighs XXXXlbs." I would expect people to ask why I chose that particular means to achieve weight reduction for my car. But, I'm not trying to say this thought should have occurred to you, I'm just making an observation from my point of view. :)

Yeah, because, you know, silly Nissan, they just throw in extra metal here in there so they can spend more money. :) ;) I'm just poking fun at you Jonathan. :)
sr20ser 08-21-2002, 11:49 PM The last paragraph in you last post says
Yeah, because, you know, silly Nissan, they just throw in extra metal here in there so they can spend more money.
Are you for real? From a manufacturing standpoint it is the wisest decision. Less tooling is involed for making a panel with a "big" hunk 'O metal that serves no purpose. Less holes, ribs, etc. the cheaper it is as opposed to "Well let's spend $1500-$20,000 on a die or spend the Xtra on a machine (laser, nibbler, punch, etc.) when we can just leave it and offset the cost of material"
Sorry, but making fun or not the posts are remarkably ignorant. If he wants to save a few grams here, or a pound there let him. However if this is true...

Then someone needs to learn about cost effective production.
This is my 2 cents, seeing as it is my right as a forum member and all.
Toolapcfan 08-22-2002, 09:56 AM Oh, boy you sure schooled me there. I was just hassling Jonathan in good fun, and se-r sam is the one who got all bent out of shape when I simply asked him why he bothered to do what he did. So whatever.
dono200sx 08-22-2002, 12:12 PM All I have to say is this: Continuing to lose a pound here and a pound there adds up after a while. Keep it up se-r sam!
se-r sam 08-22-2002, 12:44 PM The clips were just the ones that came out of the panels when I removed them to get to the tar and padding. It was no extra trouble to do this, or take any extra time. :) BTW..... I'm not bent out of shape.:p
frkpwr 08-22-2002, 01:29 PM hehe. . . that's exactly what I figured had happened. :D I hate those dumb clips car manufacturers use to assemble interiors, but I gotta say that my SE-Rs interior is much easier to work on than the interior of my 94 RX-7 was. I always break or lose something anytime I remove a panel. I guess I'm just too strong for my own good. . . ;)
