: How to pull the motor?

Hey guys, I just bought a Jap import motor for my 92 nx2000. What I'm wondering is if anybody knows what the most efficient, hassle free way of pulling the motor?

Is it easier to pull the motor with the transmission still attached? Or is it better to disconnect the transmission in the engine bay and pull the motor alone.

The new motor has the intake manifold and exhaust manifold with it and I plan on using those. So when I pull the motor should I leave those attached to the old motor or should I disconnect the manifolds and pull the block alone first?

I have pulled motors on multiple other cars so I'm not new to the idea but I've also learned that certain cars have certain tricks to making the job easier..............what are the tricks??

Thanks!

Drop it out the bottom with the trans attached. Swap the tranny over to the new engine, and leave the manifolds on. Swap the US sensors over.

For more details, do some searches, it's been discussed in great detail many many times on the forum, and 30 minutes spent searching and reading will provide you with boatloads of info from knowledgeable people. After that, if you have specific questions, let 'em fly. ;)

100% Easiest way to pull a motor out of our chassis cars, Hood off, tranny still

attached to the motor and pull from the top with a lift. I have done it in every

way possible and that is the easiest.

Seen people do it the same way, i believe this would be the easiest way to do an enigne swap.

did mine through the top with tranny still attached. You may want to get a leveler because you have to tilt it when it comes out, or else just have 2 friends help you tilt it out.

just did mine today from the top. nothing special, and this was my first engine pull, and i did it by my self. putting it back in may be a different story, if its going in through the top im gonna need some help to get it tilted.

drop it from the bottom! with 2 guys working it takes only about an hour to drop. i usually leave the axles in the tranny, just pop them out of the hubs before beginning to drop everything. first take out your rad, fans, and battery tray. unbolt your a/c compressor and tie it off to the side. undo the power steering hoses to the pump. then go in the car, remove the plastic access panel on the left side of the passenger footwell. unplug all connections to the ecu from the engine harness. now go back under the hood and unplug and undo any plugs or grounds from the engine to the body, don`t undo any plugs on the engine itself. undo the heater hoses on the firewall as well as the vac line for the brake booster. now go under the car, remove your downpipe and shift linkage. then unbolt the crossmember, 2 bolts on the front and 2 on the back. jack the front of the car up pretty high and place it on jackstands. then, place the jack underneath the x-member and put some upward pressure on it. unbolt the pass side motormount from the engine, as well as the drivers side mount (unbolt the center bolt on the body side). have 2 cinder blocks laying on the ground ready to catch the oil pan and tranny and begin lowering the jack. feed the engine harness through the firewall as the drivetrain comes down to rest on the cinder blocks. drag the whole setup out from under the car and do what you have to do, then reinstall it. its alot easier than it sounds. you will need socket sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, and 17mm. 1 1/4 for the axle bolts. an impact and air ratchet will make your life easier but not neccessary. good luck, hope this helps!

^^ I would not do it that way. Deff not the easiest. But everyone is different.

to each his own, but that has been the easiest for me. pulling from the top was no easier and i had to drain the tranny oil+unbolt the hood (plus some people don`t have a hoist) i have done it this way probably 8 times and if time was actually an issue i have no doubt i could drop a motor out of the bottom faster than someone could pull one from the top.

I have done it both ways and I prefer pulling from underneath, except I used a cherry picker to lower the engine, and a 4whl moving dolly to roll the motor/tranny out on:biggthump

Much easier than out the top IMO

Leaving the harness attached is the way to go,too. Its alot easier to get to all the plugs with it on the ground.

Good point about leaving the harness on the engine, that's definitely the way to go.

Drop the engine and tranny onto a dolly, pick the nose of the car up with the cherrypicker, and slide the whole mess out from under the car.
