: Relocating Knock Sensor on a VE?

Has anyone relocated the knock sensor on a VE?
My old one is impossible to get off, someone tighten it so much, I stripped the bolt a bit while attempting to remove it.

I have another sensor off my DE with correct resistance of 560K ohms, and I am considering relocating it, since my dizzy side of the engine is too busy to put one on there, has anyone considered the front of the engine on the head?

I wouldn't want to bypass it as knock sensor is a security feature for our engines. Let me know.

It needs to be close to headgasket height and preferably between two cylinders at combustion height, which is why it is in the middle of all four cylinders in stock location. Any other location and your reducing its sensitivity.

Have you considered cutting the bolt head off, removing the sensor and then getting using vice grips to remove the 'stud' from the block?

I had to use a dremel and cut through the sensor and bolt on my P10. The stud backs right off since there's no tension/torque on the bold anymore.

After heating the sensor bolt with the torch (the sensor got heated up good as well), I still could not remove the bolt - but I checked the resistance of the sensor and it was bang on at 0.56M ohms - I fixed it with a little heat!
Connected harness back and I got Code55 - first time on my VE!

Thanks guys for your suggestions.

it probably didnt have a good connection at the plug to begin with...

it wasn't the plug issue as with the connector unplugged initially (measured at least 5 times with different grounds) it was showing huge resistance. After heating it up with the torch, measurements went down to the right resistance. My first guess were the wires of the plug, I actually started to take the wires apart...

I understand your pain. Mine went bad last month. We tried taking it off 2x ** we actually got it off. When we finally got it off -3rd attempt - it took us about 3 hrs. We had to remove starter and quite a few other items to get space.

Hope you get it resolved soon.
