Im looking to get to around 400hp. so the question is which motor would be the best to make that happen i know im gonna have to get after market turbo so should i build the stock or replace it? and with which motor since it is fwd? thanks for any help

budgetNX 12-02-2008, 07:25 PM ugh.
i have a question..
have you ever "built" a turbo car?
paulie_cw 12-02-2008, 09:04 PM no i have not and im in no hurry not planing on getting started for about a year just trying to read everything i can and get some info. im gonna end up doing the whole car and i mean everything im gonna end up spending a good amount of money. dont want all show and no go i want both.
budgetNX 12-02-2008, 09:05 PM in a totally NON offensive way can i ask how old you are?
and good luck with the build. as for advice, start with a DET engine. makes life easier.
paulie_cw 12-02-2008, 09:07 PM damn thing sayin my message is to short im 29
paulie_cw 12-02-2008, 09:08 PM im 29

xCONWRATHx 12-02-2008, 09:41 PM Well, what do you want to do with the car?
paulie_cw 12-04-2008, 12:45 AM run courses mainly
200SX_SER 12-04-2008, 03:55 AM How much money are you looking to spend? Besides a 400hp motor ;) youre going to want an aftermarket suspension set up (coilovers, sway bars, strut bars, etc) if youre planning on using it on the track often.
How many miles is on it? If its low, an aftermarket turbo may save you a little money and work. You'd be suprised how far 200-300hp can go in a small, light-weight car. Besides, you'd go through a set of tires faster trying to get traction just driving around with 400hp. Its all up to you though!
Rojeda1217 12-06-2008, 11:06 AM tru ma dude. especially *** da chicago weather. u wanna do a build. do a mild build and keep ya boost low and try..lol to drive very easy *** the top quality tires. *** u hit the track or da highway.. turn that shit up and have fun

Qft! 400+who is all fine and dandy at first, but after a while you find that it's just not that streetable.
LOUROK 12-06-2008, 12:45 PM 400hp is alot of hp but would be mostly good for is the dragstrip. Anything under 300 would be good for a course. Don't go too big of a turbo so you'll have faster spool. My suggestion is going with a gt28rs turbo. I have a little t-25 and sometimes I feel thats more then enough power.
TheRealNightHog 12-09-2008, 02:08 AM I think its funny when people want 400 or 500 hp but dont know how to get it. If you lack the knowledge to get the power that you want, then more than likely you couldnt handle a 400 hp FWD car that burns up tires like a bitch. Start out small and get a stock DET at about 200hp then upgrade from there. This way you can get used to driving with more power as you go. Lots of power + inexperienced driver+FWD= a wreck waiting to happen.
hoffman1978@msn 12-10-2008, 08:27 PM I have also just purchased a '97 200sx SE-R. The car has 180,000 miles, but the engine still feels strong and the body is in really good shape. I am not quite as ambitious, but I do want a strong 250hp naturally aspirated. Is this possible while retaining a decent idle and mileage? I can not seem to find any recent articles for performance parts. Is there a stroker kit? Thanks in advance.
EckSyle 12-15-2008, 04:10 AM In all honesty if you pain on making 400whp in the 200sx your best bet would be to get a GTI-R SR20DET and build the motor meaning head work, cams, vavles and springs, rods, pistons, and crank. Then you need your fuel system so 880cc injectors or bigger, 255 walberol fuel pump, a fuel pressure regulator and new fuel lines. Also to save a few bucks you can get a large non ball bearing turbo ie. SC61 and bolt it onto a log style turbo manifold because it'll help spool quicker. You will also need some tranny work done because from what I've read the tranny start to give out around 300hp and you'll also need a good flywheel and clutch. Also it would be smart to run an AEM EMS that way you can get the best tune possible. Don't think this is going to be a cheap build either just on the motor alone you're looking at about $3k and I don't know if you plan on installing everything yourself or taking it to a shop but its going to cost a pretty penny. BTW that's $3k in parts not including the $1400-$1800 it cost for thr GTI-R motor. Personally if I was setting my mark at 400whp then I would be realistic about it and decide that I want to hit that at high boost(24-30psi) and when I do hit that on the dyno have it de-tuned for daily driving use(8-20psi) if your anywhere in the 250-400whp range you can still run good 1/4 mile times on slicks I mean there are 12sec B13's and B14's that aren't hitting 300whp on T25's and T28's trapping 105-110mph.

Easiest way to get 250whp is to just swap out your pistons for low compression pistons(8:5:1) try to get the Bluebird rods, get the GTI-R injectors(440cc) and get a T28 manifold and a ball bearing T28, a front mount intercooler and a AFC and go get it tuned at 12psi and you'll easily hit 250whp
