: Is it worth it? Car that is. 240sx...
u4ikstilz 08-22-2002, 04:38 PM I've been looking around for a 240sx (s13 body style) so I can do the almighty sr20det swap. I've come across one that already has the sr20det, but it recently detonated. He's putting in GTi-R pistons before he sells it, but I want to know how fixable/reliable this block will be. He's selling it for $6k. It has a starion (?) intercooler, some ghetto rigged domestic 4-row radiator, 18" Racing harts (plus the stockers), and of course the sr20det. All this sounded ok until I saw the car, damn was it a mess. Needs new front bumper, fenders, and well, it's pretty beat up. Seriously ***, how much will it cost to get the engine rebuilt to where it's reliable? TIA
2wdBlazer 08-22-2002, 04:40 PM I wouldn't touch that car. Too beat. You could buy an S-13 for 1500 bux and get your own swap done if your willing to pay that much.
dono200sx 08-22-2002, 04:53 PM To do that swap is worth it. To buy that car, not worth it.

especse_r 08-23-2002, 08:05 AM Don't even bother. You dont even know how reliable its chassi. It could be bent and it will cost you more than getting a used s13 with good body and chassi and det motor.

Just a little added info.
In the US, the Starion was the Mitsubishi that was rebadged as a Chrysler Conquest in the 80's. Mitsubishi then later released it under there own name (Starion), but it did 'not' have the wide body extensions, wider rear tires, etc. and I do not believe it had the same power options that they provided to Chrysler for the Conquest. Like the TS-i intercooled turbo, etc.

Actually they were both the same cars. Sold at the same time & Available with the same options. Always. Not that it matters.
GameDay 08-23-2002, 01:16 PM Just buy another s13 and stay away from that money pit. S13's can be had from $800 - $3,500...if you buy a complete sr20det set-up from Jason Garrett Young (jgy) it would run you $2,500 and about $1,000 in labor ball park (talk to him to find out for sure). For the same $6K, you'd have a more reliable set-up from a very knowledgeable, honest, and fair builder.
I've also read very positive things about Andreas Miko, and he's there in Florida too (Miami I think)...I just haven't found a website or contact number for him, and not sure if he does swaps into 240's (more than likely he does, again, just not sure).
Check e-bay for cars, or autortrader. Shipping anywhere in the United States will fun $550 - $800 on the lower side. If you can't find a shipper for that price, e-mail me and I'll find one for you.
Doing the following will be the wiser investment and will make you much happier I'm sure :)
Good Luck!

Well, you got me wondering about this and I found an incredible site with the entire history of the Starion and Conquest.
Somewhat on topic of the thread. Somewhat. Hehehe! All of this because of the intercooler.
Quick facts:
1. The Mitsubishi Starion actually was released in 1982 ('83 model)
2. The Dodge Conquest was released in 1984 as a joint venture
3. It appears that the Starion almost always had 2-3 different trim levels available where the Conquest had 1
4. The Conquest appeared to always be loaded with all options where the Starion had option choices.
5. Production stopped in 1989 for both cars.
Anyhow, for the car nuts out there like me, you'll find this interesting.

DubuRX 08-24-2002, 07:09 AM The BETTER route to go would be to buy a nice S13 with a blown motor or running, whatever. Buy a S13 Silvia complete front clip ("And if you have to, overnight it from... Japan":D ;)) with fenders, headlights, bumper, front support, etc, and engine, and swap the whole thing!!
I LOVE the Silvia front! That would just be my suggestion...
GameDay 08-25-2002, 11:38 PM RaSER X,
That has to be the cleanest Mini I've seen yet...and very aggressive looking too. Those wheels look like 18 inch Volk .... What kind are they, what is the offset on them, and how heavy are they?
My brother wants to get a Mini, if anything, he should set his up similiar to yours. Did the bigger wheels negatively affect the handling characteristics or feel of the car, or did it improve both? What type of drop did you put on the car, and what type of suspension are you running? Effects?
Last, tell us how it compares to your SE-R set-up handling wise. Powerwise, how do they differ.
Last, may be interested in your SE-R. Please send pics and info to mmanahan123@yahoo.com.
Thanks!

DubuRX 08-26-2002, 06:02 AM WELL.....
I don't actually have the rims... I photoshopped them on. I had a set on order, but I've decided I want a WRX instead, so I'm not doing anything to the MINI, and I'm probably going to sell it in the next few months. (So, if your brother wants a fully loaded MINI Cooper, I'll hook him up for less than the dealer would charge.)
The handling is great, although I haven't really tested the car out, I'm still breaking it in. I only have 850 miles on it so far...
It's much better than my Civic that I had, but I don't think in it's current trim it could hang close to an SE-R. In fully modified form, it could hang in a straight line, and take an SE-R in the twisties...
I've heard that going to 18's changes it's handling considerably. There is a much harsher ride, but it will hold the road better.
GameDay 08-26-2002, 11:55 PM RaSER X-
All those cars are nice...Mini, SE-R, WRX. I went and drove a couple of cars this weekend (RSX, Celica GTS)...all very nice cars. But after mulling it over, I get sick thinking about spending $20K+ on a car that I know I will grow tired of after 1 year.
Personally, I'd just drop an sr20det in your current set-up, enjoy, beat other cars, and enjoy the cash you save :) But again, I'm a cheap bastid, or maybe old fogey...I've learned my lesson on my daughters car, and won't buy new again :)
But, I will pass this along to my bro...the info about your Mini! :)

DubuRX 08-27-2002, 12:00 AM I just got done selling all my turbo parts that I had bought for the 200sx... I wanted to hook it up, but I grew tired of the car. I don't ever even drive the car anymore, I've lost interest in it. I just need the money more at this point. So if you know anyone that wants a hook up. Like I stated it does need some work, but is well worth it for what they would be getting.
