If you can wade through the bullshit, there's actaully a very good discussion on torque vs horsepower.

Warning: it's already at 15 pages!

Having to wade through 15 pages of braggadacio can't lead to anything good.

There are much better, accurate and concise Web pages with this subject.

I made the mistake of reading the first two pages, then jumped to the last.

It boils down to this: torque MULTIPLICATION and power-to-weight.

Matt, you really enjoy getting those 'boyz' over at altimas.net worked up don't you. My head hurts from reading 1/2 of that thread, some of it is pretty good though.

That is 5 minutes I will never get back of my life. I like the bullshit meter though.

I can't believe I just waded through 15 pages of that. Interesting stuff, will now have to pull out some manuals/books and start teaching myself some of this stuff(BS Engineering '86).

Well, part of the problem is communication... not intelligence, not SAT scores, not formulas... not 18 inch schlongs.

While I admire Yellowbullets and Matts endeavors(sp) to explain the problem to Solo and Redline, I also feel sorry for the latter 2 people.

This was a perfect scenerio for a student/teacher learning session. Unfortunately, if your students are not learning the material, then as a teacher, you carry the onus of failure... ie, you didn't find a way for the student to learn/comprehend.

The flipside of this: if the student is unwilling to learn, no matter how well you instruct, the student will not learn.

That 15 page run on post had about half of each. Though Yellowbullet and Matt or correct, I feel as though everyone(except me... I learned lots of stuff, really neat stuff, really cool stuff... I'm not joking. I haven't used my brain like that for a while, felt good) lost the message. Or was there a message? The thread was so long I've forgotten the original intent.

Just reread what I wrote... oh well, what could I expect after reading all 15 pages of attack and defend.

Later,
Mark

It amazes me that we even use hp as a measure anymore. All them crazy metric guys use that power curve. When I took Internal Combustion Engines class I was amazed how much clearer this argument becomes when you understand it in terms of power.
