this is probably on here but..

anyone have any luck with can type mufflers on their NX? for instance, an apex N1 can? i know its somewhat "ricey" but i like the looks of those, and i need to replace my now louder eurosport muffler. i figure that since i would be getting a universal one, and since i will be getting a custom rear section made up, that it might not be a big deal. i would rather hear of some trials and tribulations from people here then go out and spend the money and have it not work...

I have a 5Zigen ZFireball muffler weighing in at 8.5 lbs. Looks very good on the back of an NX.

The muffler I am using right now was made by arospeed. It looks like the Tanabe Racing Medallion, but there's two. It is a twin canister. Mine is very loud though as I have no Cat or resonator. The canisters are around 5 inches, with 3 inch tips.

mine worked out great on my classic. it's an OBX(more like brand x) muffler, but it's 2.5" piping connecting from the hot shot header to the muffler... it sounds awsome though

ok, looking at how straight that exhaust piping is on a classic almost makes me want one... :-)

does anyone remember off hand how big the curtesy midpipe is? (in diameter..in millimeter). i have totally forgotten. was it 60MM? the reason why i ask is this..

i have a catco 2.5" cat, and then the curtesy midpipe i want the rear section to match the diameter of the midpipe right now, i have a 2.25" rear section that i got on there way before i got the header and cat and midpipe and, when midas (newbie mistake..but that was like 3 years ago, i have done well since then) welded on my tip, they guy really couldnt weld to well. now, my muffler is rotting away under the tip in this smiley face type pattern. you can actually shake the muffler around and hear stuff rattling around in it...

oh yeah, i forgot to tell you. i had the piping made a a muffler shop for 100$. it's 1 piece crush bent exhaust, but if you get it routed under the rear suspension , the bends are so small that there is barley any loss what so ever in the way it flows compared to mandrel bends. good luck
:D
oh yeah, try groupbuycenter.com. they have great deals on universal mufflers

Got a pic? I'm probably buying an N1 for my NX (the smaller, 3'5" tip version).

Most excellent! Thanks brother.

If you could take pictures underneath so I can see how it's mounted, I'd really appreciate it.

actually, its mounted the same was as the stock one. The people i used just bent a pipe to go from the midpipe to theb back of the muffler, and then welded some round stock on the top to make hangers to hook into the stock rubber bushing thingys. I will try to get you some good pics though.

I should have talked t you sooner. i saw your post to the NX list. I havnt spoke to you since the DC convention a few years ago. I will never forget the "you know, I dont normally like NX's...but yours looks pretty good!" comment in the parking lot of the hotel before the track day...its burned in my brain :-)
Im glad you have made it to the better of the B13 cars.. (just joking guys...)

That's pretty funny! I'm still iffy on NX's, some of them just look 'right' to me, but those are few and far between. I think it's a combination of ride height (1 - 1 1/2" drop), wheels (B14 wheels, or aftermarket, not bigger than 16"), and color (blue please!). Mine will never be blue, but I've got a set of B14 wheels in the garage, and Rick's holding a set of Hyperco's for me.

Got any pics of your car online? The URL in your sig is bad.

I've been Zinged :-)

yes, shes mine. 4 years of work..and still counting. I'm glad you like it!
Those pics are a little old (except for the N1 pic) and there have been a few changes. nothing major though. I have a Roll bar on order (roll bar, harness brace, and cross brace), got my fire extinguisher today, and ordered my harnesses last weekend. I try to keep it as more of a functional track/hobby car, although my claim to fame was winning best Nissan at hyper fest at summit point last year. (some of you might have heard that before..sorry.. :-) )
