I am going to replace my transmission mounts with ES mounts. While I have the tranny down I was thinking of putting in a short shifter. Does anyone else have one, and what do you think of it?
thanks for the info.

What about a pacesetter, the SMC I was looking at was sold.

It's the same shifter. Steve sold the design to pacesetter.

Pace Setter makes a good S Shifter. Had mine for over a year and absolutely love it. about stock shifter height @ shortest throw. And did I meantion it is cheap!

ive driven darrens car with the short shifter on it, the thing i noticed is that it makes the car feel totally different , but in a good way. i loved it, i ordered mine about a week and a half ago.
the last i heard is that the pacestters are backordered.

Just today I talked to someone and they told me that it hurt your transmission? Is this true, or is nissan above the rest

i wouldnt think so, a short shifter makes missing a gear harder, and makes shifts easier, instead of cramming gears like you would with a stock shifter you can use half the force, but with alot better accuracy, and a shrter throw.. was the person you talked to refering to rwd drive cars like mustangs and stuff? i know on those the shifters actually go into the top of the transmission

I would like to put one of these in, but only if I could reuse the stock shift nob and boot. How easy is it to reuse the nob and boot, and make it look stock?

People have done it. I reused my stock boot, but went with another knob. The knob is a PITA to get off. Nissan put some kind of super glue on it to keep it from working loose. Several people have used a cloth wrapping the knob along with channel locks to get the knob off unharmed.

I replaced my stock shifter with the original $tillen Short-shifter. I've had it for at least four years and have nothing but praise for for it. The stock boot and knob were retained until I found a good deal on a Momo Race Air Leather knob.

I custom did mine all i did was take the stock one off cut it down had my dad re-thread it with his pipe threader and there you have it. Just find someone who can thread pipe, hey it was free and it shifts like a dream

Actually you are using the same amount of force becasue the fulcrum point changes. Your hand travels a shorter distance, but you need more effort to shift. Also since the gears are put together more quickly, the synchros do not have time to slow the gear down like they are designed to do, so the synchros will wear out faster.

anyone heard of aerospeed SS?

Also is it true that the SS avail. for our cars dont reduce shifter height but only reduce shift travel?

I have a B&M and I chopped of 1.5 inches of it.
I love it.
Tranny is still in good shape.

I have the Pacesetter SS, as well. I love it. It feels much more like a sports car shift now. The Pacesetter is good and cheap, but I did have an issue or two about the quality. For one, mine wasn't threaded the same a s the stock shifter. No one else seems to have had this problem but me. I just lopped a little of the top and rethreaded it.
