i just bought a manifold that had one drilled into the exhaust manifold really close to the engine..

i put the egt probe infront of #3 cylinder, and it reads 800degrees f. at idle. is that high, what is the high for idle, crus=ise at 75, and racing?

I dunno about idle, but you never want to go over 1600F (think it was F and not C)...

ok cool, i am hitting 12-1300 at full boost(6.5) so i should be good.
i put it infront of #3.

Brian,

How did you mount it on the exhaust manifold? Did you need to drill a hole. I'm ordering a gauge, but I haven't checked out my manifold to see where to mount it yet.

I'm worried I'm going to need to remove the manifold and turbo so as not to fill the turbo with little metal filings from drilling.

If the manifolds already on the car turn it on and find the spot where ur goin to tap and make the hole. With the car on it will blow out the metal so it won't fall into your turbo.

So I take it you're talking about installing the gauge downstream from the turbo? I thought to get an accurate reading it would need to be between the turbo and the exhaust port.

Unless you mean that the pressure of the exhaust alone would just blow the shavings out the new hole when the drill punches through. In that case, I'm still worried that some debris will drop into the turbo.

Thanks for the reply

No not downstream of the turbo, between the turbo and the exhaust port. cylinder 1 or 2 about 3"-6" from the port. The chips won't fall into the turbo because the exhaust energy will blow it out. If u don't think it's strong enough try blowing on the turbo wheel and see if u can get it to spin.

what i did was took off the up pipe to the tmic, started car(i know) and drilled the hole in about 10 seconds, and had my wife turn car off. then i went on to tapping the hole, a buddy taught me to tap with a drill, so i did, using the clutch setting so the tap wont break, and tapped the hole. on the way back out with the tap, my chuck came loose(damn keyless chucks) and the socket fell into the turbo. so i got the magnetic(sp) pointer thing, bent it, and go it out, put it all back together, and drove it. good luck.
